DAVO'S    1937 AUSTIN 10
BRITISH MILITARY STAFF CAR.
Australia Day January 26th 2005 Melbourne.

The 1937 Austin Ten was used by the British Military forces before and during the Second World War around Military bases until such time as a new model was made in late 1939. When war broke out in September 1939 the British government commandeered many civilian vehicles for use in the Military Forces. My Austin Ten is and I believe it to be the only one in Australia restored as a British Staff Car, only replacing items that need to be replaced for safety reasons and to comply with Victorian Road Regulations and the Classic Historical Club Permit Scheme i.e.: Red CH number plates. My Austin Ten is restored as a " impressed " vehicle, that is, one of the many thousands of civilian vehicles impressed into military service during the early days of WW2. In the U.K., Australia, and many other countries, armies relied upon civilian-based vehicles to fill the sudden demand for transport. As I understand the history of my Austin Ten was that Lady H. C. Sleigh of the Golden Fleece petrol fame brought the car into Australia in the late 1930s and was the original owner. If any one has any information in reference to the 1937 Austin Ten being used by any Military Forces I would love to hear from you. I'm also looking for photo's of this model in Military use and the faint possibility someone may have a photo of it with Lady H. C. Sleigh of the Golden Fleece petrol fame. Thank-you.
