My Mother The Queen
of my heart
Way down in beautiful Texas where the beautiful
Bluebonnets grow I had a kind old mother
Then one day the Angels came for her, a debt we
all have to pay
She called me to her bedside and then these words
to me she did say Son don't start drinking and gambling
promise me you'll always go straight
Ten years have passed since that parting and my promise
to her I did break, fist I started gambling for pass time
soon I was just like them all, I'd bet all my clothes and
my money just for a draw
One night the cards were dealt round the table, I needed
just one card to beat them and that card was a queen
Each man drew just one card
I turned my card over and this is what I saw
I saw my Mothers picture and to me she seemed
to say Son you have broken your promise to me
that you'd always go straight
My winnings I gave to a newsboy, I knew I was
wrong from the start and from that day on I will
always be true to my mother the queen of my heart
