Welcome to my Website!

"Exactly when was 'Have a nice day' replaced with 'Please visit our website'?" - Mike Shapiro, The Wall Street Journal

Watch these pages for updates! Here you can read some of my random mutterings...

Don't forget to reload each one of my pages to refresh your cache with the latest updates! There's nothing worse than a bunch of stale old pages! Click on the "reload" (Netscape) or "Refresh" (Internet Exploiter) button for each page that you are currently viewing. I also suggest clearing your browser cache regularly. Note that "Netminder" has quit being free and easily useable a couple of years ago (about 2001), and has been replaced by a site called "pumatech". Check it out and see if it's worth anything to you.

Enter unlinked WWW addresses into your browser address bar by copying and pasting them. These will cause you to LEAVE MY WEBSITE!! (but you could press Ctrl-N to get a new browser window first). To visit external websites you could right-click on the link and then select (click on) "Open in New Window". I'm told that including the final slash at the end of the URL speeds page loading. (What's O.J. Simpson's www address? -- ///[Esc])

This site was composed using Netscape Composer ver 4.7. Internet Explorer seemed to gripe about loading the pages, but everything seemed to come up OK. However, for a while there after that, I was getting two syntax error "OK" boxes in the middle of my pages when each would load, when I was viewing with Internet Explorer ver 5 (and with Netscape 4.7). As of May 24 2003, I'm composing and viewing with Netscape ver 7.02 and I'm not getting this anymore. However, the host, Geocities, seems to double the occasional character on me when the pages are uploaded (fighting this is futile) and to cause some other unintended text formatting consequences; it put this whole page into italics today (May 25, 2003), picking them up from the end of the quote above, and I had to fiddle with editing to make it stop.

Note to parents: this site contains some (but not a lot) of "Parental Guidance" material. I have put notes next to the relevant links. Recommended: reading for kids of all ages! (updated Jan 28, 2006)

Also, let me be the first to warn you to make sure that your anti-virus scanner is up-to-date before downloading and executing ".exe" files from strange websites! Even though I upload clean files from computers protected by up-to-date anti-virus scanners, it's possible that they may be infected on the website server.

Get my Public PGP Key (and see more info about PGP): Use PGP to put your email messages into "envelopes" that only the recipient can open (you just need his Public Key)! It's quite easy to understand, install and use the freeware program for Windows (and Macs).

email forwards -- Rather than cluttering up peoples' inboxes, I think it's better if I just post all this (stuff) here and people can come and read it if they want. I'll remove old content when it gets stale, when I get around to it. (updated Aug 3, 2005)

I've gone over this site myself, but if you find any broken links, please let me know.
Drop me a line and let me know what you looked at! Include "mygeneralcontent website" in your Subject line and your message will go to my Inbox! (I've added it to the link; you'll just have to edit the email address -- see the fine print)
email to: cap__foogaloojim@hotmail.com
Remove the "foogaloo" from the email address before sending. Note that the proper email address contains two underscore characters; it is "cap__jim" before the @-sign..
(Note that your message may go to my Junk Mail folder, which I do check regularly; the only difficulty might be if your message is not noticed among the junk mail. I suggest adding "RE: YOUR [EXCELLENT / @#$%!] WEBSITE" to your subject line to help me pick out your message more easily. Whew! If I have already been communicating with you via a given address, continue to use that one because I will have you on my Safe List there, and your message will get to my Inbox.)

Also, let me know if you want to link to my site, and I'll link back to yours

A note about searching this site: until I get around to embedding a search engine, this and any other specific site can be searched using a "Search Engine" such as Google (http://www.google.com) - just use the Advanced options (which aren''t that difficult) and specify the particular website to be searched. Another good service is Metacrawler (http://www.metacrawler.com) that searches by using multiple actual search engines.
