| Edgar Winter is a native of Beaumont Texas,My home town.But I'm not a fan just because he hails from here.I'm a fan because he was and still is,one of the most talented musicians around.From blues to rock to jazz,Edgar walked his own path,setting the pace for other bands to follow.Now,decades after his peak,many of his tunes can be heard on t.v.,as commercial jingles.Free Ride and Alta Mira are just 2 ,both used by Toyota if memory serves to hype their cars.Hanging Around is another,though I don't recall which company uses it to jazz up their commercials. |
| The name of his band was White Trash,which is pretty apt,since 1.he is Albino and 2.lived on the poor side of town.One of the first White bands to ever intentionally book a gig at the famous Apollo theater in the heart of New York's Harlem.This mind you,in a time where being white in Harlem was a good way to get shot.Needless to say,they not only did NOT get shot at,but actually BROUGHT THE HOUSE down by playing the blues like no other white man could!! First his brother Johnny went to New York to make a name for himself as a musician heading for stardom,and then along came Edgar.Where Johnny was more traditional blues,Edgar was out on the extreme edges of music,breaking ground,setting trends for the years to come.One of the first artists to compose music for that oddity,the synthesizer,His epic tune Frankenstein is one that probably even todays teens will find familiar. |
