Page dangled her feet in the water, watching as the sun's light danced off the ocean's waves, sparkling white on the deep blue of the water. Five dolphines squealed and chittered happily, preforming flips and tail dances as they splashed closer to Page's dock. It had been seven years since Page and her brother, Torrin, had arrived. Both had easily settled into jobs round the warren. Torrin happily took care of the running beasts with O'lan, his most important job being taking care of the Chocobos. Page, on the other hand, took to the sea. She agreed to be the keeper of the water creatures when Mystic had offered the job. Page had always been closer to the water then anything else. She loved to swim and had been since the age of five.
One of the younger pod members swam up to her and chittered loudly, attracting her attention. Page grinned and slipped into the water, immediately caught in a water fight with the five dolphins. Of all the creatures in her care, this pod was her favorite. The alpha male circled around his pod, clicking to his mate. Possessing a mind of her own, the alpha female nimbly swam up to Page and butted her lightly. Page laughed and gently brushed her hand against the female's soft hide as she passed. Frankly, she didn't really care for land creatures, as long as she had her water bound friends.
Sometimes, later in the day, the dragons and their riders would stop by to bathe and play in the surf. Page and the other water creatures would always be there to help the riders scrub down their weyrmates. Her two flits, Talso and Breck sometimes lended a hand as well.
Page would marvel at the dragons as they basked in the dying light of the day. Metallic and chromatic hides gleaming with water, bathed in the orange-red light of the sunset. Some of the scaled dragons would rub themselves against the bottom sand, purring with contentment as they worked off the day's heat. The softer, hide covered dragons simply let their riders scrub them down with sweet sand and brushes.
The alpha male finally swam up to her, clicking quietly as he rolled onto his side for a belly rub. Page smiled and stroked his white hide gently. These dolphines weren't as sentient as those rumoured to live closer to large towers and sea ports.
The youngest pod member squealed suddenly, slapping his fin against the water for attention. In one swift motion, the entire pod had disappeared beneath the waves. Page treaded water, watching the sky for the reason her friends had left.
A large, silver dragoness soared overhead, circling over the waters before diving into the deeper waves. Golden Talso and brown Breck were immediately there, chirping happily and helping Mystic's flits to scrub down Myrah'Care's hide. The silver rumbled deeply, resting her head just above water and closing her eyes in pleasure. Mystic smiled softly, walking over the cooling sands of the beach to the wooden dock stretching out from Page's hut.
"Hey Mystic!" Page grinned and swam over to the docks, hoisting herself up as she greeted the Caretaker. Mystic returned the greeting and sat down on one of the piers.
"Page, I remember you told me once you'd like to bond." She moved to the point quickly. Page raised a brow but answered the question.
"Yep. Though only if they were water bound." She blushed lightly, knowing that most water dragons tended to be very shy. Thus, Mystic had trouble finding them. Mystic only grinned.
"I think I've found something for you then."
* * * Page walked down the long, twilight beaches of KingdomDragon. Mystic had stumbled upon it recently and found a beach full of expectant mothers. A few water dragons had been rumoured to be in the clutch. Elementals were rare though and Page had set her mind so that if she didn't impress, she wouldn't be disappointed. Talso and Breck firmly holding onto her shoulders, peering around eagerly. The two flits had never been anywhere but the warren. This place was new and exciting. And big. That was one point the two firelizards didn't agree with.
Page stopped at the edge of the beach, watching a light blue dragoness curled up protectively around her eggs. She stepped forward quietly and smiled. The dragoness lifted her head to look this new comer over carefully.
"You're the new candidate that other woman sent. Page, right?"
"I am." Page nodded. The dragoness returned the motion.
"Good. You're just in time. Come here."
Page did as she was told, kneeling beside the sea-green dragon. Her eyes fell to the clutch of small, shivering eggs that the mother protected. They looked about ready to hatch....
Page is a candidate at: KingdomDragon
