The Pagan Movement (This is my original work and may be distruted freely as long as nothing is altered with in the document) In the last thirty years Paganism has seen a major upsurge in the public’s interest in the craft. Being a diverse group of individuals, modern Pagans have sprung up a religious movement that no scholar could have predicted thirty years ago. The number of people who now label themselves as “Pagans” has grown tremendously. Paganism now offers a more natural, polytheistic view on religion. If one aspect of the religion doesn’t fit you are free to find another one or incorporate views from various religions. From Wiccans to Druids to Gardenarians, there is such a diverse set of beliefs you are bound to find something that fits your personal interests. Being that modern Pagans are such a diverse group, it’s been hard to accurately keep a record of any sturdy belief system. Paganism allows an diverse view on religion that can forever an evolving experience. Otter Zell, A Neo-Pagan writer, once said “ Neo-Paganism is a constantly evolving philosophy that views humanity as a functional organ with-in a greater organism of all life...”. So who are the modern Pagans of today? Some might call them modern day hippies, while others will call the movement an after effect of Christian authoritarian religions. Every Pagan is different, yet they all share a lust for life, nature, and the ways of the old. Pagans appreciate life and all aspects with-in it. Will this movement last? Will there ever be a structured set of beliefs that all Pagans obtain to? Is this a movement or the start of a new religion? These are all questions that I look forward to finding out as time moves on in the Pagan Movement. For now all we can do is wait and see where this movement leads us. |
