| Spirit Guides: What is a spirit guide? This question would most likely be answered in different ways, depending upon who you ask. But if you are seeking my opinion (and you must be if you are visiting my site!) I would tell you that a spirit guide is a spirit that choses to stay with you and offer you guidance from the time your own existence begins until your physical existence ceases. Now, in my experience, a spirit guide does not necessarily offer you physical protection. That is only logical, seeing how they are called "spirit" guides. I have a belief in other spirits- angels of sorts- that can appear to us in human/physical form and aid us in special situations. But spirit guides and these "angels" are not one in the same, from my experience. However, some people do refer to their guides as "guardian angels." A spirit guide, as I mentioned, choses your spirit and choses to be with you throughout your existence. It is my belief that many spirit guides have lived physical lives in the past.They have knowledge of life lessons, of the world and of the spirit realm. I believe that to be a true guide for someone, a spirit would have to be experienced- otherwise, how insightful could their guidance really be? It is certainly possible that someone's guide could be a spirit that never experienced physical existence. I have had others tell me that they believe their guides have always existed only in the spirit realm. But for several different reasons, I believe that my own guides had physical existences at one time. You might even find that a relative who passed on is now your spirit guide. Or maybe a friend who died when you were very young. I even had one woman tell me that her baby was her spirit guide. Might sound strange, but she lost her child when she was about five months pregnant, and the spirit of her child returned to her as a mature spirit and became, as she told me, her "guardian angel." How do you know if you have spirit guides? I have been asked that question probably a hundred times. Everyone has a spirit guide- many people have more than one. But to be aware of their presence, you must open yourself up to them. A person who is focused only on the physical world will most likely never have contact with the spirit realm. You can't very well receive assistance from an entity that is in the spirit realm unless you are aware of that realm and are willing to be in touch with it and with your own spirit. You have to, first, believe and then open your mind and be in touch with your own psyche. You don't have to search for your spirit guides. If you are open to their existence, they will contact you and you will be able to experience a relationship with them. They may choose to contact you first, for whatever reason. But, it is possible for you to attempt to contact your guides. How do I contact my guides? There are so many methods of contacting your guides. It is a personal choice as to how you go about it. And many people, depending on their experience, develop their own ways of contacting and becoming aware of their guides. One of my methods was described on my "Importance of Meditation" page. I believe that learning to concentrate and be in tune with your psyche and the spirit realm is very important. After you have reached a oneness with the energies around you, it will be much easier for you to contact your guides. An extention to my method on my other page is this: Once you have meditiated, visited your astral home, and called your guides, you can bring yourself out of your astral home and simply sit quietly for a while. As you sit, continue to concentrate on being open to the spirit realm. After a short time, ask aloud if your spirit guides are with you. You won't likely receive an answer in the form of words, but you may get a chill, get goosebumps, or feel as if a gentle breeze has brushed your cheek, etc. After you ask for their presence, you can also ask them to make their presence known to you. Ask them to touch you in a certain area, such as on the back of your hand or on your forehead. Ask them if there are more than one of them, ask each of them to touch you so that you are aware of how many guides you have. This may take practise and you may not be successful your first time around- or your second or third for that matter. You might THINK you are concentrating properly and are in tune with youself and everything surrounding you. But your guides may not feel that you are ready for them to contact you. If you are not successful your first few attempts, keep at it. Your guides are with you to help you and are positive influences in your life. They won't do anything to harm you. What do I ask my guides once I reach them? This depends on what you want! Just remember that your guides aren't there to answer every question you ever have, to tell you how to live, to tell you how to deal with every situation, etc. They are their to give you advice and to guide you spiritually. They will not be answering questions about every worldly situation you have. They are in another realm and you are expected to live your life as you see fit. You are the one here to experience physical life and learn life lessons. You can't grow if someone else is telling you every move to make. You should be able to feel when the time is right to ask your spirit guides for advice. You can also look to them to help you along in your journey of realization of your higher self. |
