You have really been working hard. I really admire how much
you have done. However, I did find the
need for a few additions and corrections in your information and mine in regard
to my mother's family. I will send it as an text attachment following this e-mail. I noticed a few other things that I would
like to check with you. Some are just typos. Others are additional information
I need to send you. The main other one
is our Dawson line. I have that one mostly straight although there is always
room for more work. I have that on
my list to work on. I notice you
have: "He married Sarah Dawson,
daughter of Martha (born 1755 and died 1834-5 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia)
and William Dawson, on 7 March 1770 in Johnston County, North Carolina. Sarah
was born ca. 1750-60 in North Carolina and died 1834-35 in Georgia. William Dawson was the son of Ghesky and
Isaac Dawson. Isaac was the son of Lucinda and William Dawson." I would be excited if you found William's
wife. I have not been able to do that.
What I have found is that Sarah and her brother, Isaac's father was
William Dawson. William named his daughter in his will along with his wife,
Martha. He gave his son Isaac land earlier. William's father was Thomas Dawson of Goochland Co., VA. This part of
Goochland was formerly in Henrico Co.,VA.
Items to prove this:
1. Avington and Sarah's son, William was listed on the
Douglas Register which was the church where Rev. Douglas was a minister. The
Church was located in St. James Northram Parish, Goochland Co., VA.
2. In a deed to William Dawson in Johnston Co., NC, it states, William Dawson
of Goochland.
3. William wrote a will from Johnston Co., NC. It was filed in Wake. Wake was
taken from Johnston Co.
4. A Thomas Dawson of Johnston Co., NC made a will naming his beloved brother,
William, as an executor of his estate along with John Carter, his
brother-in-law. This estate (or part of it) was probated in Amherst Co., VA
(also from Goochland). This younger Thomas had a wife named Mary.
5. Thomas Dawson of Goochland left a will naming his heir as Thomas Dawson
[this was in a time where the oldest son inherited all].
6. Thomas Dawson of Goochland deeded land to "my beloved son,
William." Thomas mentions that the land is located on Licking Hole
Creek. He also mentions that his son lives in St. James Northram Parish.
7. I have found a William and a Thomas being mentioned together in that
location.
8. William served in the French and Indian War with an Isaac Dawson too old to
be his son, Isaac.
9. A muddying factor (not on the lineage, but iin getting a family group
together) is that, in Amherst and possibly Goochland, there was a prominet Rev.
Martin Dawson family. This Martin seems to be about the same age as Thomas.
This is the part that needs more work. I have some lineage from Martin. I have
not seen a connection yet. There were
Carter marriages in this family. I need to read some more records in Goochland,
etc.
10. Isaac Dawson, son of our William (father of Sarah Dawson Muckleroy) married
Gheskey/Ghaskey/various, daughter of William Mackelroy, brother of our
Archibald, son of our John and Frances.
Isaac died and left Ghaskey a well-to-do widow. After a while, she
remarried Dennis Grady (younger man). He was a scoundrel who took her money and
slaves and made her so uncomfortable that she left for Tennessee with her
children from Isaac Dawson. After about 17 years or so. I have copies of some
papers where she was trying to get some of her estate back afte the death of
Dennis.
11. I have lineage from Isaac Dawson. He had a son named William who married
Agnes ?. I have information on his children. William died leaving young
children. The other children were daughters and I have a good bit on them. I
have connected one of the daughters to a Johnston Co., NC Allen family that I
am watching.
Anyway, I think this is enough information to show that our William is the son
of Thomas of Goochland, Co., VA.
David V. Muckleroy sent me a copy of Thomas' will a long time ago. It had some
other writing on it saying that Thomas had immigrated to Henrico Co. in 1703. I
guess I could have followed it up and found this information at the time, but I
was busy and didn't. I assumed others would follow it up, but I have seen
different information on the web. One set of information connected to a lovely
Dawson family from Maryland (wouldn't you think Maryland would sound
promising?). This other Dawson married a Doyne. I checked it out long enough to
find no similarities in locations, names, or associates. Enough of this. I will send you my mother's
family.
It looked for a while like all the Muckleroy researchers had died or fallen
under a rock. It is good to find you again.
