Rogers

My brick wall is my ggg-grandfather Hill M. Rogers.  He was on the 1880 Nacogdoches census with wife Harriett and four sons, William, Diedie ?, Peyton and Charles.  He was also listed on the 1870 census of Angelina County, Texas with wife Anne and two daughters, Zula and Mattie.

Hill M. Rogers was born somewhere in Ga ca. 1834.  The last reference I can find of him was on the 1910 Upshur County census where he is living with the family of J.D. Watson.  He was listed as an Uncle.  That census also states Hill’s father was born in S.C.

My greatgrandfather was Peyton R. Rogers.  He ran away from home c. 1890 near Daingerfield, Texas.  He never saw his real family again.  He always said he was part Cherokee Indian and the reason he ran away from home was because his mother died and his Dad remarried.  The step-mom was “mean to him.”  This may account for the two wives of Hill Rogers.  All census records Hill, his wives, and his children as white.

I do not know the last names of either of his wives nor do I know anything of the children other thatn Peyton.  I did find the names of the four boys in the book “Nacogdoches, Gateway to Texas, Vol.2” but it appears they were taken from the census.  The name “Diedie” was very hard to read.  It may or may not be correct.

I am looking for ANYTHING.  Burial sites of any of the elusive Rogers.  Last names of Harriet and Ann.  And any descendants of any of the Rogers children.  I have full dependency charts of Peyton and I will share any information that I have.

By the way, Peyton the runaway, was found by some fishermen on Big Cypress Bayou and he was raised by Wingate Henry Truitt of Dangerfield, Texas.  He eventually married Nancy Ora Truitt, one of Wingate’s daughters.  All of these people are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Wise County, Texas.  Del Daniel at delbertd@ix.netcom.com

Kae, I was checking out threads in Nacogdoches and saw your answer to DAVIS.

I tried to access your web site, but geo said it doesn't exist! I am interested in your BENTLEY's.I'm descended from Willis Larkin BENTLEY(1816GA-1871TX) married to Ann DAVIS(1813 GA-1880TX). Their daughter Rachel Argent BENTLET(1851GA-1925TX) married Jessie Laurie RUSHING(1845TN-1916TX). Their daughterMinnie Lee RUSHING(1880TX-1955TX) married William Albert ROGERS(1867TX-1928TX)

My father Willie Laurie ROGERS(1905TX-1954TX) was their son. Does any of this sound familiar? Let me know please. Karen Sue ROGERS Houston Texas.
