About Me

I am a teacher in the Modern Languages Department at St. Andrew High School for Girls in Kingston, Jamaica. I teach French and Spanish to students in Grades 7 - 9.

In terms of my own personal development, I went to Secondary School at Wolmer's Girls' School. When I left that High School in 1985, I went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Faculty of Arts and General Studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. As with most UWI students in the Faculty of Arts, I chose the popular Option 42 - Languages and Social Sciences. When I left the UWI, I got a job at St. Andrew High in 1988 and I am still there in the teaching profession.

At St. Andrew, career-wise, I was always aware that I was not a trained and there was room for improving both myself and my earning potential. As a result, after some encouragement from my friends and family, I decided to do something about it. I therefore applied to pursue the postgraduate Diploma in Education (Dip. Ed.) in the now Faculty of Arts and Education at the UWI in the 1998/99 academic year.

I am now pursuing the Instructional Technology Programme at Nova Southeastern University because I have a general interest in educational technology. Information technology is the "buzz phrase" so to speak these days. I am keen to develop expertise in what computers and information technology can do for me.

Everyone is talking about the globalization of industries and the world becoming a global village and with the click of the mouse, you can sit in your own house and become an on-line trader on the stock exchange anywhere in the world, and pursue global roaming to sites in far off places at the cost of a local call. Through active participation in the programme at Nova, I intend to learn how to relate these advances in the use of technology to my work in the field of education.
