METHOD OF PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Pre-Class Activity

The students will be asked to obtain an audiocassette version of the dialogue to be used in class. They will also be asked to download from the course web site the information on introductions in Spanish, the printed version of the same dialogue and pictures of the characters in the dialogue. This will be used in class conducted by Audio Conferencing.

Activity 2: Advance Organizer

The teacher tells the students in English "The dialogue deals with a group of international students attending Nova Southeastern University’s annual Summer Institute. They are meeting for the first time and wish to get acquainted with each other".

Activity 3

The teacher will give the class certain instructions both in Spanish and English e.g. - En esta coversación hay tres personas - Alicia, María y Carmen. Escuchen la conversación.

"In this conversation there are three persons - Alicia, Maria and Carmen. Listen to the conversation". The conversation is then played for the students.

Activity 4

The teacher then instructs the students:

- Cojan la foto de Alicia. "Pick up Alicia’s picture".

He/She then poses questions to the students e.g. Burchell, ¿Alicia es de Colombia? "Burchell, is Alicia from Colombia?"

Activity 5

The teacher instructs the students to listen to the dialogue once more and the teacher asks the students to read aloud, e.g.

- Ahora ustedes van a leer. "Now you are going to read".

- Grace, tú eres Alicia. "Grace, you are Alicia".

- Bermadee, tú eres Carmen. "Bermadee, you are Carmen".

The students read the conversation aloud.

Activity 6

To reinforce the concepts presented, the teacher asks the following questions e.g. - Burchell, ¿de dónde eres? ¿De Venezuela? ‘Burchell, where are you from? From Venezuela?

Activity 7

The students are asked to write for homework, a dialogue very similar to the one presented in class.
