| Now who IS Naelany? |
| I suppose I'd better enlighten you all as to who Naelany is and why I've used the name for my website. |
| Shall we begin with the beginning??? It started about 5-6 years ago when I first started to role-play online. My very first character (and probably still my favorite to this day, even when I don't play her anymore) was called Iyanla. The inspiration to the name came from Iyanla VanZant's appearance on the Oprah show. The name means "great mother", and it fitted right in with how I saw that character. She was a half-elven bard/magic-user, not prone to fighting and preferred to talk her way out of a situation rather then fighting. I played her for a good 3-4 years, almost daily at times. I found the online role-playing to be quite a good way of clearing my thoughts and a very good place to vent. You could almost call it therapeutic Anyway, I'd played her for a very long time, and I had gotten to a point where I felt I needed to try something else, mainly because she was married to another character who at the time was no longer showing up online. I did not want to kill her off, so I decided to spin another tail to the story. |
| Enter Naelany.... Naelany is the mirror image of Iyanla, literally. I initially made her to counter play with Kinjiro who's played by Jona. Due to her likeness to Iyanla there was some confusion, but as it turned out there were a lot of friendships to come out of it too. Things never seem to go as planned in online role-play, and neither did my intentions for Naelany. At the time where I started to play her I didn't want for her to get involved with anyone because I was no longer able to be online as often as I had been before. But, somehow, along the way she met up with Keld, at the time seemingly only a boy, but he would turn out to be oh so much more then just a boy. Keld by the way is played by Dustin (have you figured it out yet???). The short short version is this: At first they were just friends, then they became pupil and teacher (Naelany being the latter). During this time he told her how he felt for her. Now at that time he was still a boy, or at least that's what she thought him to be. She therefore turned him down, though admitting she had feelings too. He went away for a while and came back somewhat changed. They met up again and one thing led to another and.... well that's as far as I'm willing to share with you fine folk ;) |
| Anyway, whilst all this is going on between Naelany and Keld in character, Dustin tells me his feelings for me in real life, we then spent the next 30 hours (yes, you read it right, thirty!) talking to each other, finding out there's much more then friendship between us and I admitted to having the same feelings for him. We spoke about trying to meet up in real life, which wasn't going to be easy with me living in the Netherlands and him in the U.S.A. He said he would try and come over in September, mind you...all this happened in March 2001. Now me being me I was unwilling to wait that long to see if there was anything really there once we met face to face, so I took some time off work, booked a ticket and flew to Oregon to meet him. Now the tricky part was that at the time I was coming over, he and his mom were moving house and I didn't have the new address or the new phone number. He didn't have Internet yet, so it was up in the air as to how it would come together. I had told him which flights I would be on and had asked for him to come and pick me up in Portland. |
