| This morning on the bus home, something very silly indeed happened. It was one of those things that you think only happens in films and such because it's so stupid. But there I was, staring at a man who had the word 'LOVE' tattooed across his upper fingers, you know, like Jake and Elwood have their names on their fingers. Worse, he then said hello to a young couple who were sitting in front of me, and patted their son on the head. Now I know pre-judging people isn't the best idea, but tell me, would you really allow a man with the word love tattooed across his fingers to go near, let alone touch, your son? What parents these people are. Exactly. The very notion of such a thing occuring is disturbing in the extreme. What is really interesting though was his other hand. Now I didn't get a good look at it - partly because he was rather large and thus the majority of his arm was obscurred from my view, and partly because he looked like a member of Combat 18 - but I could have sworn I saw something on it. Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but given that there indeed exists a man with the word love tattooed across his fingers, and that I have encountered such a man, would it be too much to assume that the mystery mark on his other hand was, in fact, the word hate? I don't know, but quite frankly I wouldn't say the notion is completely devoid of merit. Indeed then, I find myself on something of a quest. But it is a dangerous quest, to be sure. Do I dare risk another encounter with a man who has a burning need to confirm to the silliest tattoo stereotype there is? I mean, I don't think I'd be reacting like this even if he had an anchor on his right upper arm, or worse, a heart displaying the words Mum. Such an encounter would likely be severely damaging to my perhaps already deteriorating mental health, yet I feel compelled to know if he indeed has the word hate drunkenly scrawled across his other hand. Perhaps I am being to harsh. Perhaps the young couple and the tattooed man are old friends. Perhaps he is one of their brothers. Clearly, short of being a paedophile, the man is kind to children. In any case, if I see him again, it will be too soon. |

| Part 2 It seems my little quest has come to an end, as the other week I saw the dude again, and lo and behold, what was written on his other hand? Hate, that's what. yet again, I feel I must express amazement that people like this really exist. I doubt I would be this suprised if Bigfoot walked into the room and asked if I could drop him off at the Henderson's. anyway not much else to say, unless I want to start repeating myself. I am now on a quest to find someone with an eye patch, anchor tatoo and peg leg. |
