MAUTHAUSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP
Adolf Hitler built this Jewish concentration camp near Donau, Austria. Hitler wanted Austria (and his hometown of Linz) to be the forerunner for the concentration camps. This was the last camp to be liberated (by the Americans) at the ending of World War II. According to residents who lived next to the camp, they claim they were not aware of what was going on inside the camp until it was too late.
It was raining that day we visited the camp (July 11, 2000) which made the whole experience even more gut wrenching. To those innocent, whose lives were perished by the hands of ignorance and cruelty, my heart goes out to you. May you all rest in peace.
