Little Things About Mama
Funny how a memory works,
as years are passing by...
Sometimes I remember little things,
...if I really try!
Little things about Mama,
so often come to mind...
Yet, these little things are precious now,
...at least that's what I find!
I remember...times were hard,
sometimes our food was thin...
We'd sit down to all there was,
...'the same ol' thing again!'
Somehow if there was not enough,
"take mine", I'd hear her say...
Then smiling through the words...we heard,
..."I'm not hungry anyway!"
And winter time would mean new coats,
for five of us to wear...
But, Mom would make her old one last,
...a love beyond compare!
And in my carefree days of youth,
I'd always come home late...
I'd find her sitting in her chair,
...she'd say, "I thought I'd wait!"
Time has passed and seems that I,
have children of my own...
They'll find they face a busy world,
...before they're fully grown!
But still I hope that they can see,
through all life's travel brings...
When it's all said and done...they know
...how special Mom's little things!
Perhaps it'll help them understand,
and someday they'll recall...
Those little things about Mama,
...are the biggest things of all!
