Slate Quarry Winery

Slate Quarry Winery was founded in 1988 and opened in July 1989.

We make about 1000 cases of about 17 wines because we have an experimental vineyard and the winery is the end product. We are trying to evaluate what we should be growing in this area.

The vineyard is 13 acres of vinifera and French-American hybrids producing about 65 tons per year sold mostly to other PA wineries.

We make several methode champanoise sparkling wines from Vidal, Chardonnay/Pinot Meunier blend and Chambourcin.

Our dry wines are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonel for whites; Cabernet Franc, Florental (a Gamay hybrid), Chambourcin and a Nouveau from Florental for reds.

Slightly sweet whites, Vidal, Blush(a Vidal Seyval blend with a touch of Chancellor) and Quarry Stone White(a Gewurztraminer-Traminette blend). Red, a sweetened version of Florental we call Quarry Stone Red.

Medium sweet are Vignoles and a Rose' with some muscat that dominates the flavor.

We also have a Vidal ice wine or late harvest depending on the year.

All our wines are vintage dated.

As of Jan 1 the price range will be from $6 for most of the hybrids to $12 for "Champagne".

Our hours are:

Closed in January;

Feb through Sept: Friday through Sunday 1 to 6;

Oct through Dec Tues. through Sunday 1 to 6.

Our wines are only available at the winery and we are happy to show visitors around on weekends.

To find us:

From Route 22 take Route 191 north to Route 946 at Newburg. Follow 946 for 2.7 miles to Knauss Rd (winery sign) bear right and go 1 mile to the winery; from Route 33 take Route 191 south toward Nazareth, as you pass the 7-11 on left go around the corner and take the first right on High St. Follow High St out of town 1.7 miles to Gower Rd entering only from the left. Turn right on to Gower and go 3/4 mile to winery.

Sincerely,
