Spaying and Neutering is the surgical sterilization of your pet.  A female surgery is called "spay" and involves removing the ovaries and uterus.  In males, the surgery is called "neuter" and involves removing the testicles.  There are many positive benefits to the sterilization of your pet.  The obvious one that we are concerned about is the prevention of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens and doing our part "one pet at a time" to reduce the pet overpopulation.
Most pet owners ask the  same question  at some  point "why should I have my animal spayed or neutered?".  Very good question!! We hope to answer all your basic questions and concerns in a very simple format that is very basic and easy to understand.
Myth: I'm told that spaying will make my pet extremely fat.

FACT: Overfeeding and lack of exercise results in "fat" pets.  Spaying your pet will NOT make your pet lazy or fat nor will it change your pets personality.

Myth:  My pet should have at least one litter before I consider spaying her.

FACT: It is healthier for your pet NOT to have a litter of puppies or kittens or even a heat cycle before being spaying for that matter.  Your female pet can be spayed safely with a quick recovery usually within a few days and can be spayed as early as 8 weeks of age.

Myth: It will be fun and I don't think I will  have any problems finding homes for the puppies or kittens.

FACT: Good permanent homes are hard to find.  Five million animals are euthanized in the US yearly.  Consider for every puppy or kitten placed from you litter, another animal is put to sleep because there were no homes available.
Myth:   My friend told my that neutering my male pet would make my dog  or cat Fat!

FACT: Overfeeding and lack of exercise results in "fat" pets.  Neutering your male pet will NOT make your pet lazy or fat nor will it change your pets personality.

Myth: Neutering is too painful for my male dog.

FACT: This is not true.  Neutering is a very safe, fairly quick and relatively painless operation.  This will relieve the anxiety related to sexual frustration and the desire to roam.  Your dog or cat can be neutered as early as 8 weeks of age with a recovery time of less than 48 hours.

Myth:  I heard that neutering your dogs makes him a couch potato, lazy and not protective.

FACT:  Neutering your male dog does NOT make him lazy.  It also does NOT reduce his ability or desire to guard his territory.  Dogs remain protective regardless of neutering.
