"Dreams of Flight"
Ever since I can remember, maybe all the way back when I was around 9 or 10 years old (1964) there has always been a fascination with flight. One particular instance was at my cousin Bobby's house on Christmas day. I received a gas powered P-51 Mustang control-line toy model that I was overjoyed in having and couldn't wait to try it out. After all the family gift exchanging and opening was done, Bobby, his brother Donald and I went outside with the model in tow, found a nearby clearing off the side of the road and proceeded to fire it up. Now my father and other adult's slowly began to surround us and before you know it, that model was snatched out of my possession and I soon found out why. I guess I displayed some reserve or probably fear to be realistic, and someone said "Let Donald fly it".

Well, Donald assumed the controls and if I remember right, my dad started it up and let it loose. You know what happened next right? You guessed it. That totally cool looking P-51 went straight up in the sky about 25 feet and came roaring straight down into the pavement! Man, I was never so disappointed in all my short life. They all ran over to the demolished plane and in a few short words said, "It's Done".

I'll never forget that moment and the hurt I felt inside, never even getting a chance to fly, and I think Donald felt pretty bad also. Bobby though just laughed and thought it looked cool. Well, I finally was able to fly RC as this section is devoted to, and I hope you will enjoy it and some of the learning experiences I've been through.
