WILLIAM CYRUS ORCUTT (CYRUS, JACOB) was born abt.1840 in Oneida County, N.Y. and died May 18 1882 in
Dewittville Homes, N.Y.. He married HELEN SPRAGUE Abt. 1864, daughter of JAMES SPRAGUE and ANGELINE GREEN. She was born October 25, 1845 in Chaut. County and died March 22, 1884 in Fredonia, N.Y.

Military service: William enlisted in the 52nd Regt. N.Y. Volunteer Infantry at Hanover, N.Y. on Aug. 13, 1863 at the age of 22. He was mustered into Co. G. and on Sept. 17, 1864, transferred to Co. C.. He was promoted to Corporal on Nov. 1, 1864 and Sergeant on May 20, 1865. He mustered out of the regiment on July 1, 1865. In August of 1863 he was one of  about 600 new recruits to fill  out the ranks of the previously all German 52nd.  William fought at  Bristoe Station,  Mine Run, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Reams Station and Appomattox.
