A1
Great Ways to Motivate Upper Elementary Students: the Living Environment
Janine Vendetto
As we encourage our students to explore science and make personal connections to concepts, we all need some creative ideas. This workshop provides classroom tested
motivation activities that don't impact our science budgets. Come have a little fun as we create great ways to motivate!
A2
Magical Chemistry Demonstrations
James Ripka, Ph.D.
MacArthur High School, Levittown, NY
Chemistry Director at Large, STANYS
You will learn how to conduct several Magical Chemistry demonstrations that will amaze your students and visualize Chemical concepts.

Labs, Labs, Labs
Lorella Abbondandolo
Jonas E. Salk Middle School, Levittown, NY
Melissa Montauk
MacArthur High School, Levittown, NY
An Earth Science//Intermediate level labs & activities share-a-thon. Please bring 20 copies of your favorite lab or activity you do with your classes. We will have many labs
and demonstrations that we have found to work well in the classroom. Science can be hard to visualize, having lab activities and demonstrations help students to understand
the curriculum better.

Earth Science Models
Ken Abbott, Nassau Section SAR Earth Science
Bellmore-Merrick CHSD
kabbott@bellmore-merrick.k12.ny.us
Models are essential to Earth Science instruction. This year at STANYS in Rochester many of the Earth science sessions shared models and demonstrations for classroom
use. In this session I will share some of my models and demonstrations as well as some gems I picked up in Rochester. Participants are invited to bring along copies or
examples of models that they use in their classrooms.
B4
Using Case Studies in Forensic Science
Josephine Parlagreco, Nassau Section Vice Chairperson
Students love the "who dunit" format of problem based learning. Several case studies have been formatted to give students a little data at a time like in a real forensics
problem. Several real and fictional case studies will be used to present forensic science concepts such as crime scene, blood spatter, arson, and DNA.
B5
Great Ways to Motivate Middle School Students: the Physical Setting
