Germantown Sister City Announced Thursday, August 7, 2003 - Wahrheitİ
"Bolshakovo, which is located in the center of the Kaliningrad Oblast, was once the German city of Kreuzingen. We felt that given Germantown's Russian and German backgrounds, it would only be appropriate to have a sister city with a related history," said Germantown Regional Committee Chairman Ivan Grundhauser. "We are really getting the best of both worlds with this one," he continued. Grundhauser, whose ancestry can be traced back to an East Prussian town not far from Bolshakovo, made the announcement early this evening after a long session of telephone conversations with the civil leaders of the potential cities. Shortly after he heard the news, Reinhard Schicklgruber, head of the Stalinist Party, declared August 7 a Party holiday to be celebrated in the future as the Day of Russo-German Union. Plans for a student trip to Bolshakovo for next summer, and even the building of a small monument in each city's town square, are already in the making, pending permission from Russian and local authorities.
