Part 9- Autumn leaves

~Today is Thursday, 25th of September. The leaves are starting to fall. The wind is coming from the east instead of the south and is sending chills through every being in the forest. And today, just like any other day, I’m sitting inside my house doing nothing. I did the dishes, the laundry, chopped wood for the fireplace. It all seems so useless. Day in day out doing the same. Its too cold to train outside, my skin doesnt stop shivering. Whats the use of training anyway. All the big baddies have gone a long time ago.. And Chi-Chi has been gone for years now. All life seems to hold on this very moment is breathing and keeping my house tidy. Its annoying that I, with my few braincells, even find this mind-numbing.~

~October, 12th. I have been staring outside my window for two days now. I saw the sun go down and rise again invisibly behind the clouds. I saw rain start in tiny drops, swelling to rivers running down the hill behind my house. My mind is starting to betray me. Every time is see the treetops wave and feel the power of the wind, my mind dwells off. When I close my eyes, I see his face, gazing at me. Sometimes, when the wind swirls around me, it almost seems as if I can hear his voice calling out to me.~

~December, 2nd. I cant sleep anymore. Every night I wake up, hearing his voice screaming my name. Even when i’m awake, I see his eyes burn my soul. I cant stand it much longer. Its eating me from inside out. Its has been 7 months ago now, but it feels like an eternity. It sounds so stupid.. 8 months ago we wouldnt even spar or see eachother anymore. And now, he is all I think about, consuming me. Why doesnt Trunks tell me when I can see him? When is this awful waiting finally over? Its driving me insane! I cant... what? Wait..~

Goku looks up from the table, where he has been writing. Wet leaves being pushes away softly. Blinking he concentrates on his ears, making sure it is not the soft rain, ticking against the house and the falling on the leaves. Grabbing his old nyoi-bo, he slowly walks to the door, still listening. It must be predator, a mountain cat wanting to shelter from the cold dirty weather.

Then suddenly, he drops the long stick and stares at the door. Something stops in front of his door, making his heart stop beating. The doorknob slowly twist and the door opens. A small but strong wet hand snakes around the corner of the wooden door, pushing it more open. At that moment the wind blows through the door and passes Goku, taking with it a strong patchouli-like scent.

‘Hi..’

‘Hi... Vegeta?’

‘Can.. can I come in Kakarot?’

He isnt even able to say Goku’s name, as said saiyan finally realizes what is happening and lunges himself forward, making them both land on their backs in the wet leaves outside. Ignoring the wet leaves, Goku holds on to him for dear life, never wanting to let him go. When he hears a small gasp coming from the prince, he finds himself practically sitting on him, squeezing all the air out his lungs. Blushing at that sudden close position he stands up and tries to look everywhere but in the eyes of the ouji. Looking down he reaches out to give Vegeta a hand and pulls him back on his feet.

‘Sorry..’

‘Hn.’

A heavy silence falls over the two warriors, once the strongest that existed. Both blushing a bit uncomfortable, Goku is suddenly fascinated by his lightblue shirt, tugging at the small buttons. Vegeta studies the trees and looks up to the sky, when at that moment, a large drop of water hits his forehead. With the cold water dripping down his face he turns to glare at Goku, who acts as if he hasnt seen the cute surprised look on the prince’s face.

‘Well. You owe me an answer.’

‘Nani?’

*drip* Slowly the rain starts to swell and within seconds, both are drenched.

‘Baka.. Can I come in before I get wet?’

‘But you are already wet Vegeta.’

‘I know! If you would have used that cell you call brain than I would have been dry!’

‘Sorry..’

‘So?’

‘Yeah, sorry, sure! Please come in!’

Snorting, Vegeta passes Goku and enters the small house. Inside, it smells like a woodfire, mixed with a hint of Goku’s own scent. The house seems to built with only three rooms, since two doors are open. Not that they can close anyway, clothes and training gear is strewn everywhere, blocking the doors from closing. Vegeta takes a few more steps inside, the warm wooden floor cracking underneath his feet. He takes in a deep breath, smelling the air around him and most of all, that scent he missed for all those months. The famliar smell that belongs to his rival and now subject of his obsession, Kakarott.

Since he had dreamt that Goku had called out for him, surprised that someone had found a way to his mind. He believed that he wouldnt see another soul for the rest of his life, he craved not seeing anyone. He had been dissapointed that he was able to think, seeing the nightmare happening over and over again. He had expected to die, but he hadnt. No, fate had thought it was funny to leave him alone with his pain, making him remember and feel it again and again.

It was then, that he had seen Goku appear in his mind, calling out to him. the fool at even talked to him, pulling at his soul to come back. Not just because life was worth living, but also because Kakarot had needed him, wanted him. The love radiating from the large man had been so overwhelming, that it had crushed his soul. He himself had desired the other saiyan, but then, after Goku telling him he loved him after he had seen the terrible images, he had hated and loved that feeling that he was needed. His pride had forbidden it but his soul had craved it that moment. When he grabbed hold of that desire, he felt sorry and stupid for what he had done. The next moment, he opened his eyes and saw the white ceiling and smelled the air in the hospital. Gasping in amazement he had clenched the warm hand holding his, finding it to be Goku’s.

From that moment, he could only think about Goku’s voice, his face, his large dark eyes filled with compassion and love. Every night when he went to sleep, he smelled the strong musk scent that had engulved him in that dream. All the time he was in the hospital, being a subject to various tests, he had expected to see him walk into his room, being all happy. He hated the tests, but it had given him some time to think. Think too much perhaps. For now, Kakarot was the only thing that his mind seemed to consist of. It had grown into an obsession, a need to be close to the one that had pulled him out, promising him to never leave him and to love him.

Vegeta smirked. Maybe it wasnt so stupid to come here after all. He wanted answers, answers to his feelings, answers to the promise Goku had made him. Answers to a question that had been bothering him throughout the past few days that he had planned to find the larger saiyan, was it real, or was it just a silly dream from the mind of a crushed being?

‘Vegeta?’

Snapping out of his thoughts and memories, he put back on his stern face and turned around to see Goku looking down, a light blush spread over his cheeks. Then the tall man grins, a grin as radiant as the sun and looks at the prince.

‘What?’

‘You don’t know how good it feels seeing you standing there in front of me.’
