July 20: Unitarianism’s First Flowering
~Dorothy Milne~
Unitarianism took Europe suddenly by storm in the late 1500's as
part of a tide of religious experiments which arose during the
Protestant Reformation.
For 80 years, during a brief era of religious tolerance, the first
Unitarians produced a theology and a community which were
surprisingly 'modern'.
The story of these first Unitarians raises some interesting
questions for our own times.

Statement of Principles. Being theme-based, these services provide
an opportunity to develop a theme/topic over a series of services
happening the first Sunday of each month. What defines these Sunday
services is the continuity of the theme and, the collaborative work
involved so that two or more people construct the service. Kate and
Tammy will be working together to present the first in a series of
services about the Principles.
Sept. 14: Water Ceremony
~ Diane Ryan & Tammy MacLeod ~
The Water Communion or Water Ceremony, was first used at a Unitarian
Universalist worship service in the 1980s. Many UU congregations now
hold a Water Communion once a year, often at the beginning of the
new church year (September). We invite you to bring to the service a
small amount of water from a place that is special to you. During
the appointed time in the service, one by one each person
pours water into a large bowl. As the water is added, each person
may choose to share where the water has come from and why it is
special. The combined water is symbolic of our shared faith coming
from many different sources.
