Intellectual Teaching Autobiography

Teaching is a profession that always requires an explanation when people ask me what I plan to do with my life.  No one really seems to understand why I have chosen this profession.  In fact, most individuals try to dissuade me from pursuing this career path.  With all of this in mind, I am convinced that education is a profession that one must be influenced to pursue.  Teaching is a career that for many years has been taken somewhat lightly in our society.  With all of these thoughts at hand, I have chosen education as my career path and I plan to pursue the endeavor with great optimism.
As a child I would call myself a successful student.  I loved attending school and I was quite fond of the large majority of my teachers.  I learned very quickly that I really enjoyed the teachers who had quite a bit of structure in their classrooms.  Because of this, I absolutely adored my second grade teacher.  She was a very structured person who taught her students to be extremely responsible and conscientious.  She inspired me to gain the desire of taking part in the classroom environment.  As the years past, I also became extremely fond of my eighth grade teacher.  She was also structured in the classroom, but in a somewhat different manner.  My eighth grade teacher was the first teacher that I had who took a real interest in her students.  Mrs. Smith was a genuine person.  She challenged each one of us to reach our highest potential while having some fun along the way.  Mrs. Smith is who really inspired me to touch the lives of others through a classroom environment.
When I first entered college I decided against the career path of education and headed full blast into a whirlpool of business.  I figured that I should change my major from education in order to make some kind of money one day.   I later contemplated the idea and decided that teaching is what I really wanted to do.  The money was not so as bad as people make it out to be.  After all, the job itself really had nothing to do with the salary that I would be receiving, rather the children’s lives that I soon would be influencing.  Deciding the subject area that I desired to take part in was a whole different story in and of itself.  When I began pondering the idea, I decided that I did not want to be what would be referred to as a “regular classroom teacher”.  I wanted to take part in a field that would be considered a non-academic subject, but at the same time would be an ever-changing field that would also be an exciting learning environment for my students.  That is when I decided that I wanted to major in business education.  I feel as though this is an area that will be updated constantly and will be an adventuresome task to teach.
With all of this in mind, I feel quite compelled that my place in life is that of an educator.  I feel as though I will be challenged in my profession in a way that no other profession can even begin to touch upon.  Aiding in the process of another’s education would most definitely be a rewarding experience.  Watch out world, here I come!
