Mr. Wong's Movie Reviews - 2002 |

Homer Simpson - "I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if it's speed dropped, it would explode! I think it was called the bus that couldn't slow down." |

Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers (Action/Adventure) - 2002 - Rated PG-13
Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee
Summary: The second chapter in the JRR Tolkien saga, the hobbits Frodo and Sam brave terrible dangers in an attempt to see the evil ring destroyed, while Aragorn, Legolas and their allies strive to rescue the abducted hobbits Pippin and Merry from the clutches of evil. The great wizard Gandalf also makes his miraculous return to aid in the struggle against the united towers of Saruman and Sauron.
Review: Now here's a warning to you all, you need to have your washroom breaks well planned. Downing a 2L bottle of pop just as you enter the movie is probably not the best of ideas. There's lots of action for those of you into these things. It's definately helpful to re-watch or re-read (though I suspect that re-watching the previous movie is the option that you'll choose), but be prepared because 6 hours is lots of Lord of the Ring in one day. Totally enjoyable, with wonderful cinematic views of New Zealand. If you get bored through the movie, there's plenty of time to complete lots of math homework.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Action) - 2002 - Rated PG (So you'll be definately allowed to see this, if Mom and Dad give you the OK)
Daniel Radcliffe, Sean Biggerstaff, David Bradley, Kenneth Branagh, Alfred Burke
Summary: The follow up to Harr Potter and the Philospher's Stone finds young Harry Potter and his friend Ron and Hermione facing challenges during their second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as they try to discover the dark force that is terrorizing the school.
Review: Now I must admit, I may not of willing gone to seen this movie, but hey I was there. Now, first of all, where was "Fluffy" the 3 headed dog, or "Nerbert" the dragon? But it was fun, seriously, who wouldn't enjoy a game of quiddich. We see the introduction of the new Nimbus 2001 broom. However a warning to those who believe that the only good kind of spider is a dead squished one - yeah, get ready to close your eyes big time.

City By The Sea (Drama) - 2002 - Rated R (So you'll probably not be seening this, but maybe your parents will enjoy)
Robert De Niro, Frances McDormand, James Franco, Eliza Dushku, William Forsythe
Summary: De Niro plays New York Police homicide detective Vincent LaMarca. His father's troubled past continues to haunt him, as does the choices of his son. Is the father any different than the grandfather, or the son any different than the father. At some point Vincent LaMarca must face his own personal demons.
Review: Now, to be fair and quite honest, I don't know a thing about this movie when I went and saw it, there was very little hype ... or maybe my friends were just uncultured. I figured hey maybe this will be a nice comedy or maybe your typical De Niro movie where he goes around and kills everybody, yeah well I was wrong. This movie requires a bit of thought. The characters battle their cyclic nature, as it seems that son shares the fate of the father, and his father before him. A typical ending could have been so much more than the hollywood cliche of breaking circle of fate.
