PEGGY MOFFITT bio by NICKY LONDON

Model Peggy Moffitt was the first freak model of the 60’s. A muse and friend for gay activist and designer Rudi Gernreich, she spent over 25 years modeling for him right up to his death in 1985. Married to photographer William Claxton, Peggy along with Rudi Gernreich created some unforgettable looks that are classic 60’s images. These images still serve as great inspiration to designers today. Peggy will always be remembered for her dark black Vidal Sassoon bole hair cut, smoky black wide eye & pale looks that she made famous. She created her own walk for the catwalk as well as her signature style of modeling. Peggy became even more famous when she modeled a topless bathing suit featured in Life magazine. Her playful attitude and creativity set the pace for lots of 60’s models including Twiggy. Peggy Moffitt can be seen in such films as Blowup and Who are you, Polly Magoo?
