MARC ALMOND about London scene

When Kris Neate and I visited an all-day New Romantic Festival at the Rainbow in London´s Finsbury Park.  I discovered that what had been a fun scene in Leeds,  was in London both highly competitive and bitchy.  The first thing I noticed when I entered the foyer was Steve Strange tearing down posters for the  Some Bizarre Album,  screaming  ´ I hate thats fat cunt Stevo´ ( His imaginative use of language has never ceased to astound me ).   Rusty Egan was collecting  the money while making cynical comments about the stupidity of his punters.  To me it all seemed sad,  cynical and foolish - a parade of pretentious,  posing clowns.  Then to top it all,  Jasper Conran arrived with a painted crone on his arm.  ´ And I dont know what I´d  do without my little Jasper´  she squawked.  I felt just a little queasy .  ´ Where are we?´    said a friend.  ´ At the  St Valentine´s Day massacre´ ? ? When Daniel Miller arrived with a sheepish Depeche Mode in town,  all dressed in their new designer outfits,  I knew it  was time to make my exit. Back at home,  I threw away my outrageous outfits and swore to wear simple black from then on.
