Tips for collectors There are many different ways to collect Hot Wheels. You can collect a set such as... The First Editions offered yearly ('99 has 26 cars)or The entire blue card set starting with numbers upto and beyond the 1000s You can collect a series such as... The 4-car series such as the Dark Rider, Surf 'N Fun or Race Team series. Or the ultimate collection... the redline collection. The first hot wheels cars made by Mattel that had a red line on the tires. Another hard to complete set would be... the Treasure Hunt car sets This set is harder to complete because of the limited production of the Treasure Hunts, eventhough, Mattel stop putting the Treasure Hunt Production numbers on the cards. You can also collect a specific vehicle such as.. Collecting Hot Rods like the mustang, camaro or corvettes Or specialized vehicles like Fire engines, helicopters and police cars. You can even collect hot wheels by the number For example, collect all cars numbered 100, 200, 300, etc. Or 50, 150, 250, 350. Collecting with a theme makes collecting more fun in my opinion. You hunt for cars but, unlike Treasure Hunts car no. 500 OR 900 are a lot easier to find. One question people ask themselves is should I pay a premium for new releases? Most of the time, it is early within the release that an error/variation is found (valuable or otherwise)..ie, light blue ford, 3 tampo super comp, orange mustang mach I, no tampo bad mudder, large tampo/unchromed base Tow Jam, Blue Mustang, purple interior Dodge Concept !! &....other numerous variations.
