1976-77 season:
The California Seals franchise renamed "Oakland Seals" in 1970, moves to Cleveland, Ohio after 8 seasons and becomes the "Cleveland Barons".
After just 2 seasons in Kansas City, Missouri,  the Kansas City Scouts franchise relocates to Denver, Colorado,  and is now known as the "Colorado Rockies"
1978-79 season:
After relocating to Cleveland, Ohio  just two seasons earlier, the financially troubled Cleveland Barons franchise merges into the Minnesota North Stars franchise, and retains the North Stars name.
1980-81 season:
Following 7 seasons in Atlanta, Georgia,  the Atlanta Flames franchise is moved to Calgary, Alberta and renamed the "Calgary Flames".
1981-82 season:
After spending 4 seasons in Denver, Colorado, the Colorado Rockies franchise relocates to northern New Jersey, and is renamed the "New Jersey Devils".
1993-94 season:
Ending 25 seasons in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Minnesota North Stars franchise moves to Dallas, Texas, and drops the "North" from their moniker, now calling themselves the "Dallas Stars".
1995-96 season:
After 15 seasons in the NHL in Quebec City, Quebec,  the Quebec Nordiques franchise relocates to Denver Colorado, and is renamed the "Colorado Avalanche".
1996-97 season:
Following 16 seasons in the NHL in Winnipeg, Manitoba,  the Winnipeg Jets franchise moves to Phoenix, Arizona and is renamed the "Phoenix Coyotes".
1997-98 season:
After 17 seasons in the NHL in Hartford, Connecticut, the Hartford Whalers franchise moves to Raleigh, North Carolina and is renamed the "Carolina Hurricanes".
