Title: Fighting Alone

Author: Nicky

Disclaimer: I don’t own anything.

Synopsis: This is in response to a challenge. Buffy and the gang go back to L.A. (for a reason that I made up) and they basically make Angel regret his decision to start a relationship with Cordelia. But there is a lot of other stuff too.

Author’s Notes: Um, not a lot to say here except this fic is fluffy, but there is, as always with me, a little angst. I have been working on this a long time, so I hope you enjoy it.

Rated: PG-13 to R

Prologue

She watched as the haunting light flickered out of the crypt’s hollow entrance. She squinted to see the shadowy figures that whispered ominously inside.

"The master’s ascension is soon," one of the shadowy figures excitedly whispered.

"We are to wait for him in L.A., but word on the street is that there is some sort of vampire with a soul trying to take out all the evil going on. He even has a little team to help him!" the other figure bitterly spat. Buffy laughed to herself. That was Angel.

"Yeah, I hear him and his son are trying take down the local gangs of vampires down. We’ll have to be careful that he does not find out about the ascension, for no doubt that he will try to stop it," the other figure laughed.

"And let’s hope the little slayer doesn’t figure out about the master’s ascension either." Buffy rolled her eyes. Minions were so stupid. But, unfortunately, she couldn’t kill them yet, because she needed to know more of their plan.

"Let us go, and prepare for the ascension." The other shadowy figure stated, and then they rose and headed for the entrance of the crypt. Buffy sucked in her breath and pushed her back up against a shadowy part of the wall; the demons walked past her, and she remained unnoticed. She kept her back pressed up against the wall until the figures had successfully passed her by. Buffy stepped out of the shadows.

"Angel has a son?"

Chapter 1-

Angel heard a shriek like no other. He ran down the stairs like a bat out of hell.

"Oh my God! Your HAIR!" Willow screamed in shock as she looked at Cordelia’s short, choppy blonde bob. Buffy covered her mouth in amusement. Cordelia resembled a circus freak. Angel stopped at the base of the stairs.

"What? You don’t like it?" Cordelia nervously questioned.

Buffy and Willow looked at each other, and Willow uncomfortably stared back at Cordelia. She hated lying.

"It’s so...blonde!"

Cordelia proudly touched her short tresses. "I know. My hairdresser thought that it would make me look more chic. It’s all the rage on fashion runways." Willow nodded. Buffy touched Willow’s shoulder.

"Angel," Buffy softly mouthed as she looked at him standing at the base of the stairwell. He came out of his trance, and jumped to attention.

"Buffy." He stared at her, and drank in all her features. Willow smiled knowingly at him. Cordelia jealously looked at their intimate gaze, and she protectively touched Angel’s arm. Angel closed his eyes and burned the image of Buffy in his brain. He couldn’t have her or love her anymore. He was with Cordelia.

"What are you doing here Buffy?" Cordelia spat. Buffy broke her gaze with Angel to give Cordelia a distasteful glance.

"I heard a new big bad was coming into town. I thought I would give you a heads up and tell you that I was going to let you guys join in the fun. Nothing new has been happening in Sunnydale. I got those demons slayer-whipped."

Angel smirked. Cordelia frowned.

"I haven’t had any new visions lately. I think I would know if anything new was in town."

Buffy raised a perfectly manicured brow. "Anyways," she said looking away from Cordelia’s hateful stare. "I brought the Scooby Gang for back up. I was wondering if your team wanted to help take down the baddies with us?"

Angel looked to Cordelia who was giving him a stare that could kill. He nodded. "Yeah, I think we would be into helping." He looked at the familiar faces surrounding Buffy, and then he saw a shy-looking girl clasping Willow’s hand.

"Hey, Giles," Angel whispered. The older man took off his glasses, and began to clean them.

"Hello, Angel. It’s good to see you again."

Angel smiled. He always did like Giles. Giles made him feel safe somehow. Dawn waved and Angel grinned at her.

"Hey, Angel." Willow brightly said. "This is my girlfriend, Tara." Angel nodded and politely smiled at Tara.
