Block Tag

Supplies

Jasc/Corel's Paint Shop Pro.

Tube of Choice -  For this tutorial, I used a delightful image created by Suzanne Woolcott.  You can purchase her wonderful art in tube and full form at AMI which stands for Artistic Minds, Inc.

Accessories - Blocks and Teddy graphics were from Microsoft Clipart Media and tubed by me.    Also included is the Baby Blocks font.  And one more item, included, is the letter texture bmp file that originally was available in PSP 8.  Save the texture in your My Documents/My PSP Files/Texture Directory.

Please remember, when creating your signature tags, to only use permission art and to apply the copyright information on the tag.  If  you have purchased a commercial image, do add your license number as well.

**When creating your Signature tags with Paint Shop Pro, do remember to save continually.  Nothing worse than to use up your memory resources and lose everything!**

CREATING THE TAG

Step 1

Open up a new transparent image with a width of 575 and a height of 550. Flood fill the image with white.

Step 2

Left click the top color box and select a color you will want for your alphabet letters in your background.  Once you have your color selected, left click the top color box again and click on the texture button at the very top right.  Scroll down until you find the letters texture.  Set the angle to 0 and scale to 72 and click ok.  Left click on.   Flood fill the image with this texture. Go to Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten.

Step 3

Go to Image/Add Borders.  For border color, use the same color you used for your alphabet letters, symmetric and border width 5.

Step 4

Open up the file that has your alphabet blocks and teddy.  Go to the layer with the alphabet blocks and go to Edit/Copy.  Make the tag image active and go to Edit/Paste as New Layer.

Go to Layers/Duplicate two times and arrange your blocks with one side by side and one and one overlapping.  Or if you want more blocks or less blocks, that is up to you.

Step 5

Open up your tube graphic.  Make your tube graphic active and go to Edit/Copy.  Make the tag image active and go to Edit/Paste as New Layer.  If your image is too large, go to Image/Resize, using the percent option, bicubic and resize all Layers Not checked.

Step 6

Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and use the settings from above.

Step 7

Open up the teddy graphic and paste it as a new layer.

Step 8

Go to Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten).  It is important to flatten your image before applying the text.  It will make the colorizing of the inside of the block text look better.

Step 9

Add your baby block text like this:

Make the top color block null (no color).  Select the color you want for your text in the bottom color box.

Have your cap lock clicked, font size 48 or 36 (if you have a long name) and add your text.  **If you used Vector text, open up the layer palette, convert the vector to a raster layer and go to Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten.**

We want our tag flattened before we colorize the text.

Step 10

At the material palette, select a color for the inside of the blocks.  Left click the magic wand, using the settings from above, and left click inside each of the blocks to select them.

Go to Selections/Modify/Expand 1 and flood fill with the new color.  After flood filling, go to Selections/Select None.

Step 11

Add your copyright information and licensing information, if applicable.

Step 12

Go to Image/Resize using the percent option at 90%, bicubic and resize all layers checked.

Save your tag as a jpg.

We hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
