These birds, accustom to living with man, do not stress as easily as other species. As a result, they can live in homes that have other birds and other animals. These birds have no problems batheing, eating or singing in front of humans. Additionally, they can be housed with any species of finch as they are non-agressive. They are also so easy to care for that they are a great species for the beginner to start with.
These birds can not be sexed visually. I have been told that only the males sing and that is one of the easy ways to sex them. But try and get them to sing in a pet store!!! I have a chocolate pied crested male and a cream pied crested male whom nest togeather and are the greatest foster birds I have ever had!!
