These finches should not be housed with other species in small confines.  They need to be housed with only one male and many females, as males will fight to the death in breeding season.

The males are easily noticed due to their very long tail feathers in the breeding season. The male can sport a tail of 8 inches long!

In the wild the hens lay their eggs in the nests of St. Helena's and Red Ear Waxbills and leave the for the other breeds to care for.  So be sure to have foster birds for the eggs.
