The Civil Rights Movement Today

The Civil Rights Movement is just as strong today as it ever has been. Groups such as the National Associtaion for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Rainbow PUSH Coalitioin are the driving forces behind African Americans and their fight for equality.

The NAACP is the nation's largest advocacy organization.Through political pressure, marches, demonstrations and effective lobbying this group has served as the voice for African Americans. This group fights daily to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of minority group citizens of the United States.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition, founded by Rev. Jesse Jackson, is a progressive organization fighting for social change. The Coaltion, much like the NAACP, is fighting for social, economic, and political justice. As Rev. Jesse Jackson states:

"The American Dream is one big tent of many cultures, races and religions. Under that tent, everybody is assured equal protection under the law, equal opportunity, equal access and a fair share. Our, struggle demands that we open closed doors, extend the tent and even the playing field."

There are many other groups that are taking on daily battles in the war against segregation and inequality. As long as the slightest bit of injustice exists these groups will be fighting for their rights.
