- Globalization in the movie can be compared to imperialism in the book. -The U.S. tries to control Jamaica just as the Belgians tried to control the Congo. - The U.S. seems to think that they are helping Jamaica just as the people back home in "Heart of Darkness" think that the Belgians are civilizing the natives of the Congo. -Tourists in the movie can be compared to the Women in the book, because of their ignorance or ability to ignore what is really going on. -The free zones can be compared to the work being done by the natives. -U.S. is trying to gain a profit from the products of Jamaica, just as the Belgians were trying to gain a profit from ivory. |
