MAKING MOVIES IN NEW JERSEY
EDISON, NJ -- Why just watch movies, when you can go out and actually make them? That's the idea behind Exit 131 Productions, a newly-formed, non-profit film production entity that was created in August in order to give NewJersey's writers, directors, editors, and actors a chance to make movie magic right here close to home.
"The new digital technology has made it rather easy and inexpensive for just about any aspiring filmmaker or movie buff to go out and make a movie," explains the group's co-creator, Lizbeth Finn-Arnold. "But our group isn't just interested in making movies. We want to make good movies and we're lucky that there is an immensely talented pool of artists living and working right here in New Jersey."
Exit 131 Productions allows both novice and veteran filmmakers to enter into its fold. Those new to the business, can gain valuable on-set crew experience that will allow them the opportunity to get their foot into the showbiz door. They also can watch and learn from experienced filmmakers.
"As artists, we understand how frustrating it can be to sit back and watch movies when you'd rather be out there making movies," explains Finn-Arnold. "With Exit 131 Productions we are building opportunites for local artists to be part of something dynamic, fun, and creatively challenging and fulfilling. Are we going to win Oscars? Probably not. But most of us are in this business because we have a story to tell and we simply want a chance to share it."
Exit 131 Productions is an experimental off-shoot of the national organization, AIVF (Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers), which fosters and supports the independent film community. For more information, contact edison@AIVF.org.
