Brethren:

It is awesome and humbling to consider the ideas of Bro. Lee Sherman Dreyfus who was the speaker in the video
Freemasonry and the Fabric of America at the Consistory recently.  He suggested that the Supreme Architect might have laid plans upon the Trestle Board for the foundation the American Experiment with Masonry as an aide and guide. The USA was the first fledgling democracy in the world.  He makes an excellent case that (due to Masonic Allegiances and Beliefs that our Founding Fathers professed and demonstrated) they developed a government that gave the power to the people for self-regulation, indicating that everyone should meet on the Level.  Therefore, the premise of being on the Level was the basic tenet to eliminate the need for a king.

With that said, our early leaders had many differences both military and political.  Bro. George Washington wished to surround himself with Generals in whom he could put his utmost trust.  Therefore, almost all were Masons.  Political differences nearly killed the adoption of the US Constitution until Bro. Benjamin Franklin prevailed at the age of 81 years to urge the Congress to consider our common brotherhood over our discrepancies.  With the help of 13 Masonic signatures, the Congress passed the US Constitution without the Bill of Rights, which was to be taken up at the following Congress.

Few of our HCH 15 brethren had a chance to see Lee Dreyfus, but I hope that they will view this video, when the opportunity presents itself as our Lodge now has a copy.  Other Lodges may get a copy at the Consistory.

Lee Dreyfus’ final tenet is that the future of a peaceful world lies with Masonry.  Our belief that all men can live in harmony and respect another’s faith and politics is the only thing that will save us.  Therefore, more now than ever, we need to promote Masonry.  Regardless of age (consider Ben Franklin), you can have a positive influence for our future and our legacy.  Masons should be proud of their heritage, continue with their traditions and strive to spread the light in order to leave a lasting legacy of peace and brotherhood.

Sincerely & Fraternally,

David R. Leeds, WM 2007
