                                             In Retrospect

Brethren:

As my time as the Worshipful Master draws to a close, I recognize what has been accomplished and what still remains unfinished.  The Temple is in better condition than when I began due to our great relationship with the Order of the Eastern Star.  Our Chapter #140 of the OES provided the funding for the Kitchen Project.  RW Bro. Wil Parsels repainted the Kitchen with some assistance by the WM.  New cabinets and stainless steel worktables were installed.  Plans are underway to paint our banquet hall that may lead to making the banquet area a revenue source.  Bro. Les Brader and Bro. Len Smith cleaned the steps and the columns to improve our appearance.  Four new Masonic flags, courtesy of me, appear on the corners of the property and a new banner announces on appropriate evenings that there is a Masonic function “in progress.”  I designed Masonic stickers that were printed and have been used to help increase the community’s awareness of us.  There were some other minor improvements, too.
Our officers’ line for 2007 had perfect attendance for the first three months.  They have done well at Regular Communications and with Degree Work where the candidates have been duly impressed.  DLI’s and GLI were well attended.  As there was only one Past Master in the top five positions, this is basically a young group with great potential.
My messages this year were written to have the Brethren reflect upon simple ideas that can have a positive influence upon your circle of acquaintances and friends.  Perhaps you have applied some of my suggestions or you may already have been using them because you realized the value in their application.  I have personally sent over 300 Masonic Birthday Cards to celebrate the number of years that those Brothers have been Masons and invited them as a guest to our dinners before Communications.  I have expedited meetings by reducing the number and length of correspondences and by using written minutes.  I have also had instructive and entertaining speakers at each Regular Communication.
My time as the Worshipful Master has a definite beginning and end.  As we journey through life, we all had a definite beginning.  However, unlike my time as the Worshipful Master, we rarely know our end.  We do not know the amount of time that we have to labor at positive changes and to influence others.  William Penn, a Quaker, was wise when he said,

I expect to pass through this life but once.  If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.
Please do what you can while you can and support our incoming Worshipful Master, RW Bro. Ron Brining.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

David R. Leeds, WM 2007
