We took our first camping trip with our sister troop, Junior Troop 1516. We stayed in a yurt which luckily had a refrigerator and wood burning stove. We learned how to build a campfire, light matches, use a charcoal chimney and cook over the coals on the grill. We baked monkey bread in the box ovens that Troop 1516 made. We roasted marshmallows over the campfire to make s'mores for snack and sang around the campfire. We also took a night hike through the woods. Everyone thought that was VERY scary since it was pitch black. We did a little work on compass skills and took another hike through the whole camp during the day. Our Service Unit will be having our encampment in the spring so we are looking forward to camping with everyone. We are hoping to do a white water rafting trip in the summer. We had a great year (2004/2005)! Our parents held a yard sale for us to earn money to work on service projects along with our sister troop, Junior Troop 1516! We began writing to our penpals - Brownie Troop in Ventura, California. We continued our mascot exchanges with troops from around the country and overseas! We went to Build A Bear as the service project for the Zink the Zebra program. For the holiday season we went to see the Nutcracker Ballet at Count Basie Theatre. We had a great year selling cookies. We sold 1000 boxes and sent cookies to the troops in Iraq. We went to the Brownie Tea Party, the luau, and marched in the Memorial Day Parade. We also went to YMCA Camp Bernie for a busy outdoor day where we went horseback riding, scaled the climbing wall, did the Low Ropes Challenge course, canoed, and tried archery.
