| Here's another pattern, No. 3. This one has a more modest heritability of 58% (this would still be considered quite high heritability even in experiments conducted in a single laboratory). Note that the C3H mice, which almost never perform the two previous patterns, are the most common preformers here. | ||||||||||||

| This pattern is defined as: Distance of 5 to 10cm from the wall AND Slightly negative jerk (that is, moderate decrease of acceleration) AND Heading back to the wall (> 30 degrees from parallel) AND Curvature slightly in the wall's direction (1-5 degrees/cm) This means that the mouse is moving back to the wall and slightly turn more in the wall direction. The mouse is alredy near the wall but not quite there. The moderate decrease in acceleration means that the mouse is mildly breaking. Here is an SJL mouse performing such a pattern: |

| Note that the change in direction is slight, but it's there. Note also that the negative jerk doesn't have to appear as a peak in the speed profile, as in this case. For example, here is another case, this time by an FVB/NJ mouse: | ||||||||||||

| Here the slightly negative jerk manifests as a change from uniform speed to decceleration, and not as a speed peak. | ||||||||||||
