3. Are there any fees or
charges associated with my child's participation with LIAB in
addition to registration and if so what are those fees?
Yes. Currently Look LIAB is not in a position to fund each
child’s complete participation in our Literacy for the Arts
program, so we require that all books are purchased by parents.
In addition, all fieldtrips (including the child's food and
souvenirs if applicable) that are not sponsored by the
organization are the responsibility of the parents. All
out-of-city trips are funded by fundraisers and installment
contributions by parents; such trips have a minimum of 4 to 6
weeks advance notification. Please refer to list of past
activities for an idea of what some of these trips entail. Such
things as t-shirts are suggested, but not required, for group
identification during fundraisers and activities, as well as
field trips.
Payment arrangements
can be made on an "as need" basis.

4. How long has the
organization been in existence and what other partnerships or
schools if any do you presently work with in the community?
LIAB Literacy for the Arts has been in existence for two and a
half years with its third year anniversary in February 2006.
Please refer to the “home page” for the history of LIAB.
We are currently
developing partnerships with schools and other community service
organizations in the community to expand our services and
student participation. Our goal is to have a program in at least
four schools within the Brooklyn community by the next program
year. Currently, we are in partnership with Empowerment Through
Exposure Inc (ETE), a college preparatory program/organization
for our upper middle school and high-school aged children. ETE’s
goal is to get every child college bound and competitive by
preparing him for the SAT, ACT, scholarship application process,
financial aid, and the college experience, in addition to
preparing him for the professional world. Although the
organization is based in the Washington DC Metro areas, LIAB
serves as a satellite, as ETE serves as such for us. LIAB is the
source for academic, historical, cultural and artistic
fundamentals, while ETE takes them a step further for us by
preparing the jewels for the world of college and career
development.

5. Do you have an
After-School Program and if so, where is it held and the cost if
any?
Currently, we do not sponsor an after-school program but are
looking to provide one in the near future. We need enough
interest communicated by our parents and the community in order
to have one.
LIAB’s upcoming
after-school program will definitely be provided and supported
by fees which will be reasonable for our parents to participate.
In addition, we are seeking federal, sate, and city grants in
order to provide services to parents in need of care for their
children to work, but are unable to afford the going rate. This
participation will be at a first come basis due to limitation of
space limitation.

6. How was your curriculum and reading list
selected or developed for the program and what should I expect
my child to learn by being a part of this organization?
This organization was formed to enhance students’ interest in
liberal and literary arts, introduce new as well as classic
Literature, and provide private tutoring assistance in reading
and other subject areas when necessary for a standard fee unless
otherwise stipulated.
One of the primary
goals of the LIAB program is to enhance the students’ grades in
the aforementioned subject areas and significantly increase the
students’ scores on state standardized tests by exploring
different study methods and resource materials in a fun,
enlightened environment.

7. What type of
activities should I encourage my child to complete at home that
will enhance her participation and assist in her success at LIAB
and everyday academics and living?
We encourage all parents to read and/or review the books their
children are reading, as well as assist them in all writing
activities in preparation of our sessions. Allow your children
to explore and use critical thinking to identify what they think
the books or subject matters address. You should also allow them
to speak freely about their premonitions of life altogether.
Verbal communication, journal writing, educational television,
and other family programs as a positive medium are all
contributors to a child’s learning and development. Weekly or
monthly visits to the public library and museums with your
children are always recommended. Storytelling sessions, book
fairs, literacy workshops, school literary clubs, and writing
and debate clubs are also suggested.

No. All sessions will be held in a safe and secure location and

12. What type of food will LIAB provide for
my child to eat?
As we believe in developing the mind and character, we are aware
that diet is a congenital aspect of clear thought for
development. We, therefore, try to provide natural snacks, such
as fruits, organic chips, cookies, and natural pastries or
desired food by students. In addition, we provide only water or
natural juices.
All dining for our Art
of Dining series will be at cultural natural restaurants.
Parents, please do not expect your children to eat fast food. We
do not support fast food and will not provide such to children –
no exceptions. There are always healthy alternatives for price
concerns.
