Dr Appointment Updates


January 10th, 2005 @ 8 weeks
My first appointment finally got here! Had the normal 1st exam, but doc gave me a "quickie" ultrasound per my request. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay without having to wait until 12 weeks to hear the heartbeat. So I got my u/s and saw the baby! It was tiny, but we saw the little heart beating strong. So we can all breathe a sigh of relief (or at least I can!). Not much to report. I weighed in at 140 lbs for a starting weight.

February 7th, 2005 @ 12 weeks
All blood work came back okay. I'm also measuring 3 weeks ahead. He said my uterus was measuring @ 15wks instead of 12. But he also said that measurements before 20 weeks can be very inaccurate and to not worry. He checked for the heartbeat by doppler and it came in at 160bpm. I weighed in at 144 lbs, total weight gain: 4 lbs

March 7th, 2005 @ 16 weeks
My weeks finally caught up with my belly, my uterus is now measuring right on 16 weeks. My growth slowed down this month and I knew I was playing catchup. The heartbeat was 160 again. I was able to schedule my "BIG" ultrasound appointment for 9am on April 4th. I'm so excited to see what this baby is! I weighed in at 146 lbs, total weight gain: 6 lbs

April 4th, 2005 @ 20 weeks
BIG ultrasound day and it wasn't what I expected. Almost everything went okay and the baby weighed in at 13ozs, right on target. The one problem was the baby's nuchal fold (bottom of the neck) showed an increased size, 1mm larger than average. This can be a sign of Down's Syndrome or another type of chromosomal defect. Alone, without any other signs, the nuchal fold test isn't much to worry about. In fact, it's only supposed to mean anything at 11-14 weeks. Due to no other signs, I'm 20 weeks and the increase in size is minimal, the doctor said not to worry but I have been referred to a perientologist for further testing just in case. The appointment is scheduled for Thursday, April 14th @ 8am. I'll post the update after the appointment. Check out the ultrasound pics while you are here - the link is on the previous page. Periontologist Appointment. We had a level II ultrasound today and the tech remeasured everything. She said that the baby was *FINE* and everything was measuring within normal range. She didn't know what the last tech was looking at, but she checked and rechecked and finally said the nuchal fold was completely normal. So we're exstatic the baby is healthy. And ... we found out the baby is a GIRL! Two girls in the house soon. Wow! Tom's going to be surrounded by women! I'm sure he'll get used to it. The baby weighed in at 1 pound, 3 ozs.

May 2nd, 2005 @ 24 weeks
Another monthly checkup and everything was on target. My blood pressure was 100/64, uterus measured 22 cms and the baby's HB was 152bpm. Everything is going fine and I'll see him again in another 4 weeks. I weighed in at 166 lbs, total weight gain: 26 lbs

June 1st, 2005 @ 28w2d
Another "boring" but good appointment. My blood pressure was good, uterus measured 29 cms and the baby's HB was 150bpm. I now start going to my appointments every 2 weeks. I weighed in at 173 lbs, total weight gain: 33 lbs

June 7th, 2005 @ 29w1d weeks
This wasn't a doctor's appointment - it was our 3D ultrasound appointment. But I wanted to say that she weighed in at 3lbs, 3ozs and definitely still a GIRL! She's measuring a tad ahead - about 31weeks, but all within a normal range.

June 13th, 2005 @ 30 weeks
Same ole, Same ole. BP 110/70, uterus measured 31cms and baby's HB was 160. All is well. I weighed in at 175 lbs, total weight gain: 35.

June 27th, 2005 @ 32 weeks
BP 109/67, uterus measured 33cms and baby's HB was 160. Do you see a pattern? I weighed in at 177.5 lbs, total weight gain: 37.5.

July 11th, 2005 @ 34 weeks
BP 110/76, uterus measured 32cms (doc said this was fine and baby was most likely in a different position) and baby's HB was in 160s. I weighed in at 181 lbs, total weight gain: 40.

July 13th, 2005
Had a little scare with pre-term labor. I started noticing quite a bit of Braxton Hicks Contractions around 845p and by 9p, I was timing them. They were 5 mins apart on the dot and lasting ~45 seconds. I laid down on the couch, drank a bunch of water and kept my eye on them. Still 5 mins apart and not getting any further apart. I called on-call OB and he said I needed to go to labor & delivery. So off I go. By the time I get there and get all hooked up to monitors, the contractions were 3 mins apart and a bit painful (not bad at all). I was checked for dilation (still closed!) and monitored for an hour while they made me continue to drink fluids. After the hour, they were still 3 mins apart so I got a shot of terbutaline to stop the contractions. They immediately stopped. I was sent home with instructions for bedrest for the next 24 hours and if contractions came back, to come back in. No more contractions for me since.

July 21st, 2005 @ 35w3d
BP 110/70 and baby's HB was in 162. I weighed in at 183 lbs, total weight gain: 43.

Aug 1st, 2005 @ 37 weeks
BP 110/68, uterus measured 37cms and baby's HB was in 160s. I weighed in at 186 lbs, total weight gain: 46.

Aug 8th, 2005 @ 38 weeks
I got my first internal today! It's sad how excited a pregnant women gets to receive an internal to check for progress. But just about NO progress here. Just a "dimple" dilated and no effacement. It's really an arbitrary measurement because I could still go into labor anytime, but I really wanted to see some progress! BP 110/70, uterus measured 38cms and baby's HB was 162. I weighed in at 186.5 lbs, total weight gain: 46.5.

Aug 15th, 2005 @ 39 weeks
Well, I walk into Drs appointment and get I'm asked "why are you here?" I guess my appointment is the tomorrow, not today. But the staff went ahead and worked me in with the other Dr - who happens to be on call this week, so what a good time to meet him. I forgot to ask for any of my measurements - although he did say "eveything looks great" so I'm sure I'm on par. He gave me my second internal and I am progressing! Seems I was a "fingertip" and 50% effaced. He went ahead and stretched me to 1cm and said "there, I gave you a birthday present, you are 1cm now". How funny! But he said last week, my Dr said I was "closed and thick" so I'm definitely making progress. Funny, I guess my Dr was throwing me a bone last week by saying a dimple! I weighed in at 186 lbs, down a 1/2 lb from last week, total weight gain: 46.

Having lots and lots of contractions w/ some bleeding. Went in to doctor's to be checked. Seems I'm progressing okay, but my blood prssure shot up again! Wants me to be at hospital in 1 hour so I can get all checked in and he'll break my water to get things going. Well, here we go!
