CHAPTER 34

It’s been two weeks and Alexis still hasn’t told Jax about the possibility that Ned could be the father of their unborn child. Lady Jane has agreed to keep it to herself but not for much longer.  Jax has been away for a week now but should be returning home in the next day or two.

Alexis is in the living room going over some papers when the phone rings.

“Alexis Jacks.”

“Just hearing your voice makes me miss you all the more.”

Alexis smiles instantly at the sound of Jax’ voice. “I think I’ve found us a place to live and as soon as you get you’re butt back home I’ll show it to ya.”

“Do you like it?”

“Yes I love it. It’s a two-story house with plenty of room and a lot of light.” Alexis happily replied.

“Great then why don’t you call the realtor and let her know I’ll be home late tonight and we’d like to close on the house first thing tomorrow morning?”

“What?” Alexis asked as though she was completely thrown off guard. “Don’t you want to look at it before we go to closing?”

“Why? You love it and I love you.”

“But you might not like it.”

“Okay well does it have a master bathroom big enough to put a Jacuzzi in?” Jax asked.

Alexis laughed “Actually it’s already got one.”

“Well how about enough room for a pool and a swing set in the yard?”

“There’s already a pool and enough room for a huge swing set.”

“Great then I’ll bring one home.”

“You’re going to bring a swing set back from Europe with you?” Alexis asked through laughter. “Wouldn’t it just be easier to buy one when you get home?”

“Okay you win I’ll wait till we get home.” Jax replied. “Now back to the inside of the house. Does it have at least 5 bedrooms?”

“It has seven I believe, why?”

“Well we’ll need one for us one for Rebecca one for the baby and at least two more for the rest of our kids.”

“Jax we haven’t even had this one yet.” Alexis said as she placed her hand over her stomach. “And you’re already thinking about having more.”

“Have I told you how much I love you yet today?”

“I’d rather you were here to show me.” Alexis said rather sadly. “I miss you something awful.”

“I’ll be home tonight you just make sure you call the realtor and set up the appointment.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to look at it first?”

“Nope the only thing I want to look at when I get home is my gorgeous pregnant wife.”

There’s a knock on the door.

Alexis looks down at her stomach before walking over to the door and answering it.

“Well you might change your mind once you see how much weight I’ve gain in one week.” Alexis said to Jax as Lady Jane walked through the door.

“You couldn’t have possible gained that much weight.” Jax replied lovingly. “And even if you did it would just mean more of you to love.”

Alexis just smiled “so is everything not going as planned? You said you didn’t think you’d be home for a couple more days?”

“Actually everything went better then planned and that’s why I’m in the air as we speak.”

Lady Jane motions for Alexis to tell Jax she loves him.

“You’re mom just got here and she sends her love.”

“Tell her I love her too and I’ll be home soon.”

“Okay I miss you.”

“I miss you too and take care of yourself.”

“I will.” Alexis replies before hanging up the phone and looking over at Lady Jane.

“So I take it you still haven’t told him!” Lady Jane stated angrily.

“I didn’t get a chance to tell him before he left town and I didn’t think it would be appropriate for me to tell him something like that over the phone.”

“When is he due home?”

Alexis walked over to the couch and sat down. “He’ll be home late tonight.”

“And just when do you plan on telling him?”

“I’m not sure yet I’ll have to play it by ear.” Alexis replied as the phone rang. “Excuse me.” She answers the phone. “Hello”

“Hi Alexis it’s me Ned.”

“Hey I figured you’d be calling sooner or later.” Alexis said not wanting Lady Jane to know who was on the other end.

“I wanted to know if you’ve made any plans to have a blood test ran.”

“I’ll have to get back to you on that. I’m considering waiting until after the fact.”

“I take it you can’t talk?” Ned asked.

“Not at the moment no but I wouldn’t worry about it too much I’m sure we’ll figure something out.”

“Have you even told Jax yet?”

“No I haven’t but I’m working on how to solve that problem as we speak.”

“You’ll call me if you need anything?”

“Count on it.” Alexis stated as she hung up the phone.

“So how‘s Ned?” Lady Jane asked

“Ned?” Alexis asked trying to deny the fact that Ned was on the phone.

“I just assumed that was him.”

“Lady Jane I know you’re upset about the fact that the child I’m carrying might not be you’re grandchild but...”

“I’m more upset that you haven’t told my son the truth.” Lady Jane said cutting her off.

“I promise you Lady Jane I’ll tell him before the weeks up.”

“You better.” Lady Jane replied sternly as she made her way to the door. “Or I will.” She added slamming the door behind her.

Alexis took a deep breath and collapsed onto the couch.

Later on that night Alexis picked up a sleeping Rebecca off the couch as Jax walked in the door. Jax threw his stuff on the desk and ran over to her.

“You shouldn’t be carrying her.” He said as he took her from her and lightly kissed Alexis’ cheek. “You look tried why don’t you sit down and get some rest while I tuck her in?” He kissed her again. “I’ll be right back.”

Alexis sat back down on the couch and closed her eyes as Jax took Rebecca up the stairs.

“She’s so tried I don’t even think she knows I’m home.” Jax said as he came down the stairs to find Alexis sound asleep herself.

Jax just stared at her for a moment before bending down and picking her up. Carefully and slowly he made his way up the stairs to their room. He couldn’t believe how much he missed her as he laid her on the bed lightly kissing her face. She looked so peaceful as he sat next to her and ran his finger through her hair.

“I love you Alexis Jacks.” He stated quietly as he placed his hand on her stomach. “And I love you too little one.”

~*~

The next morning Alexis rolled over and slowly tried to open her eyes. She doesn’t remember the last time she slept so well. After a few minutes she climbed out of bed and pulled on her robe when suddenly it hit her that Jax came home last night.  She went into the bathroom and brushed her teeth before making her way downstairs.

Meanwhile Rebecca and Jax are in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

“Well I think that will do it.” Jax said as Rebecca put a piece of toast that she buttered on the tray.

“I’m glad you’re home.” Rebecca happily stated.

Jax put down the tray they prepared for Alexis and picked Rebecca up. “And do you know how glad I am to not only be home with you and mommy, but to also know how glad you are that I’m home.”

“I love you daddy.” Rebecca said loudly as she wrapped her little arms around his neck.

“I love you too.” Jax replied back.

“Okay break it up already.” Alexis jokingly stated as she walked into the kitchen. “And tell me what smells so good?”

“Daddy and I made you breakfast.” Rebecca answered as Jax put her down. “And we we’re just going to bring it up to you.”

Alexis smiled at Jax and then looked over at Rebecca. “Well how about since I’m already up we all eat breakfast together.”

“Sounds great to me.” Jax answered as he took a bite of bacon and then gave her a bite.

Rebecca pulled out a chair for Alexis and Jax pulled one out for Rebecca.

“So did you call the realtor like I asked?” Jax asked as he sat down.

“Yes I did and the closing is at 11:00.” Alexis replied as she took a bite of toast.

“I made the toast. Is it good mommy?”

“It’s the best toast I’ve ever had.” Alexis replied to Rebecca before turning her attention back to Jax. “We have enough time before the closing to go see it if you’d like?”

Jax got up and poured himself a cup of coffee. “I told you Alexis I don’t need to see the place as long as you like it and it makes you happy I’m all for it.” He kissed the top of her head before sitting back down.

“The house is really big daddy. Way bigger then this one.”

“And even Rebecca likes it.” Jax stated mockingly. “Now if the two women in my life like it then who am I to say I don’t”

There is a knock on the door.

“I’ll get it.” Rebecca yelled as she got up from the table and ran to the front door.

“Oh no you don’t.” Jax yelled as he ran after her. “You just don’t open the door when you don’t know who is there.”

“Who is it?” Rebecca asked.

“It’s you’re grandparents.” John yelled. “Can we come in?”

Rebecca opened the door and flew into John’s arms. “Look grandpa daddy’s home.”

Alexis came walking out of the kitchen catching eye contact with Lady Jane.

“So have you guys eaten yet?” John asked.

“Actually we were just finishing breakfast.” Jax replied

“That’s too bad you’re father and I wanted you to join us downstairs.” Said Lady Jane.

“I’ll eat breakfast with you grandma.”

“Rebecca you hardly touched your breakfast and you want more to eat?” Alexis asked

“She only wants to go with you because Grandpa here lets her order donuts instead of a decent breakfast.” Jax shot out.

“Well Rebecca you’re more then welcome to join us for breakfast.” Lady Jane replied as she took her hand. “It will give your mommy and daddy a chance to talk.” She added looking directly at Alexis.

Jax could tell that there was something off between Alexis and his mother but decided not to call her on it until after his parents left.

CHAPTER 35

Lady Jane, John and Rebecca all left and Alexis was just about to head upstairs when Jax grabbed her arm stopping her.

“I was just going upstairs to get dressed.” Alexis replied. “Unless you had something else in mind.” She seductively added.

“I wanted to know why the temperature in the room dropped at least 20 degrees when my parents showed up.”

Alexis rubbed the side of Jax’ face and started up the stairs once again. “You know you’ve been gone why to long.”

Jax followed her with his eyes as she descended the stairs. “And you’re avoiding the question.”

Alexis stopped in the middle of the stairs and turned to look at him. “I’m going up to our room to get dressed or undressed depending on weather or not you’re coming.”

Jax just shook his head before slowly walking up the stairs himself. When he got to the room Alexis was standing there leaning against the bedpost looking oh so sexy in her teddy.

Alexis looked at Jax and then down to her stomach before picking up her robe which she flung onto the bed.

“You know maybe this outfit wasn’t the right one to wear.” She quickly stated as she tried to put on her robe.

Jax grabbed the robe form her and threw it across the room. He placed his arms around her waist and pulled her into a deep passionate kiss.

Jax broke the kiss and looked her in the eyes. “You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and the fact that you’re carrying our child just makes you all that more beautiful.”

Alexis’s face turned beat red. “You’re just saying that to make me feel better.”

Jax placed his hand under her chin and picked her face up. “I’m saying it because it’s the truth.”

Jax kissed her lightly before pushing her back down onto the bed. He looked deep into her eyes as he laid his body next to hers and placed his hand on her stomach. Alexis tensed slightly at his touch.

“Something the matter?” Jax asked

“Um no it’s just your hands a little cold that’s all.” She nervously stated.

“Sorry.” he sadly said before kissing her.

It didn’t take long for a simple kiss to take on a life of it’s own. Jax pulled her close to him and began removing the straps from her teddy. Alexis broke the kiss and pushed Jax back.

“Jax there’s something we need to talk about.”

“Later.” He replied as he pulled her lips to his once more.

Again Alexis broke the kiss and looked at him but Jax made it clear that talking was the last thing on his mind as his hands made their way down her backside and he ran his lips across her neckline.

“Jax.......I really think.....we should talk first.” Alexis had trouble stating due to Jax’ lips making his way further down her neckline to her chest.

Jax pulled her teddy from her chest exposing yet more of her body. Alexis couldn’t take it anymore and decided to give up on talking as Jax’ lips caressed her body and they made love.

An Hour Later Alexis is half-asleep while Jax runs his fingers through her hair.

“Do you know how many times I went to bed at night thinking about nothing more then making love to you?”

Alexis sleepishly replied. “If you weren’t gone so long you wouldn’t have had so many nights to only think about it.”

“If you and Rebecca would have come with me like I asked I wouldn’t have had to.” Jax shot out.

Alexis looked up at him. “You know why I couldn’t leave.”

“Yes I know your clients needed you.” He mockingly stated.

Alexis slapped his chest.

“Ouch that hurt.” He said as he rubbed his chest.

“Oh I’m sorry let me kiss it and make it up to you.” She replied through tiny little kisses.

“That feels much better.” He stated as the phone rang.

“Hello.......oh hello Lady Jane.........”

Alexis’ heart almost sank.

“.........um no I don’t think that will be a problem let me just ask Alexis.” Jax looked at Alexis. “They want to know if it would be all right if they kept Rebecca for the afternoon?”

“Actually that’s a great idea.” Alexis answered as she tried to get out of bed only to be held back. “We have the closing and all this morning anyway.”

Jax kept a good tight hold on Alexis as he put the phone back up to his ear. “That’s fine, Alexis and I have something we need to take care of today  anyway ................. All right.....I love you too.” He hung up the phone and looked at Alexis. “And just where do you think you’re running off to?”

“Jax I need to take a shower and it’s getting late.”

“You said we needed to talk before and I’d like to know about what?”

Alexis again tried to get out of bed but Jax wouldn’t let her. “Jax, honey we don’t have time for this.”

Jax let go of her arm. “It has something to do with my mother doesn’t it?”

Alexis got out of bed and pulled on her robe. “No it doesn’t.” She looked at him. “Well technically it doesn’t.”

Jax sat up. “Okay then tell me what it is you wanted to talk about and how it technically doesn’t concern my mother.”

Alexis took a deep breath and sat on the edge of the bed. “It has to do with the baby.”

Jax eyes grew with concern. “Is there something wrong with the baby?”

“NO, No.” Alexis quickly stated trying to reassure him. “The baby is healthy and so am I.”

“Then what is it?” Jax asked confused.

“Jax I love you and the last thing I would ever want to do is hurt you.”

A tear started to run down Jax’ face. “Please don’t tell me you don’t want this baby.”

Alexis couldn’t bear to see the look in Jax’ eyes so she stood up and looked away. “No Jax I want this baby I love this baby.”

Jax got out of bed and pulled on his pants. “Then tell me what it is that is so bad you can’t bear to tell me.”

“It’s just there’s a possibility.....A small possibility mind you, but yet there’s still a possibility that.............”

Jax walked up behind her and placed his arms lovingly around her. “That what Alexis?”

The tears screamed down Alexis cheeks as she found her next statement to be one of the hardest things she’s ever had to say. “ That the baby.........might not.......I mean I don’t think it isn’t........” She turned in his arms. “I just wish I knew for sure.”

Jax picked her face up making her look him in the eyes. “Spit it out Alexis.”

Alexis took a deep breath. “The baby might not be..........”

“Say it!” He yelled as Alexis closed her eyes. “Open your eyes and just say it!”

“The baby might not be yours!” She finally yelled out.

Jax dropped his one arm from around her. “The baby might be Ashton’s?”

Alexis couldn’t bear to look at him but he wasn’t giving her much of a choice. “Yes.”

Jax didn’t say a thing as he walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. He walked back into the room and right past her never making eye contact. “You better get in the shower or will be late.”

“Jax please we can’t........”

“The water’s running.” He coldly said interrupting her.

“Jax please.” She said as she made her way towards him.

Jax picked up his shoes and the rest of his clothes pushing his way past her. “Alexis take a shower and meet me downstairs when you’re ready to go.”

Alexis placed her hands over her face and cried into them deeply as she heard him walk down the stairs.

~*~

Jax and Alexis had just finished signing the papers to their new home and were now in the car on their way there. Alexis kept looking over at Jax but he kept both hands on the steering wheel the whole time as well as his eyes on the road. Neither spoke as they drove 16 miles out of town, it was the longest 16 miles of their life.

Alexis broke the silence but only to inform Jax that he missed his turn. Jax didn’t even acknowledge her as he turned the car around. Slowly they pulled up into a long shelled driveway. Jax stopped the car and put it into park, they both sat there looking straight, still not a word was spoken. Jax finally got out and made his way to the front door. He just stood there and waited for Alexis. Alexis took a deep breath and then walked passed him and unlocked the door. They both entered the house and Jax started looking around while Alexis walked over to the sill in front of the picture window and sat down.

A few minutes later Jax came back into the living room. “Are you ready to go?”

“I was under the impression you weren’t speaking to me.” Alexis replied as she stared out the window.

“I really don’t want to get into this right now Alexis.”

Alexis stood up and looked over at him. “Then when Jax....when would you like to talk about it?”

“I don’t know.” He replied as he opened the front door. “I just can’t do this now.”

“I never meant to hurt you and I don’t believe the baby is Ned’s!” Alexis yelled as he walked out the door. “Is this you’re way of telling me it’s over and you’ll never except this child in your life if it is Ned’s?”

Jax stopped right outside the door. He thought for a second and then walked back inside. “You know I’m not that stupid Alexis I knew deep down that things between you and Ashton weren’t over and yes when I first found out you were pregnant the idea that it might be Ashton’s popped in my head.” He walked over and sat on the bottom step. “But I pushed it out of my mind and said if there were the slightest chance that Ned is the father you would have told me.” Alexis looked back out the window. “But it’s been weeks and you’ve never said a word to make me think anything other then the child is ours.” He stood up. “Nothing nothing at all, you allowed me to believe that there wasn’t any possible reason for me to think the child you were carrying could be anybody’s but mine!”

Alexis looked at him. “Jax I’m sorry I didn’t know how to tell you.....I know it isn’t an excuse for lying but I just couldn’t bear to tell you.”

Jax walked over to her and put both his hands on her face. “You know Alexis you not telling me the truth is worse then Ashton turning out to be this baby’s father.”

“Jax please I need you to understand.......”

“Understand what Alexis......understand that for weeks you were  so unsure of the love that I felt for you that you couldn’t even be honest with me?”

“I never doubted your love Jax.” Alexis yelled. “I know how much you love me. I just didn’t want to hurt you if I didn’t have to.”

“So what were you going to do Alexis wait until after the baby was born and then run a DNA test without telling me?”

Alexis didn’t say a word as she closed her eyes.

“You actually thought about doing that didn’t you?” Jax yelled.

“The thought did cross my mind.” Alexis replied as Jax started to walk away. Alexis grabbed his arm. “But I knew I couldn’t live that way...........that we couldn’t live that way...........I’m sorry Jax you have to believe me............ I love you.”

“Oh Alexis I do know you love me.” Jax stated before giving her a kiss. “The problem is I honestly don’t think you realize how much I love you.” He added as he made his way out the door without looking back.
