WOODS COUNTY MUTUAL BURIAL ASSOCIATION

The Stiles-Howerton Funeral Home was located on the south side of the square, approximately where the current Holder Drug is located.

Date of issue of the following certificate was June 25, 1937. G.A.Stiles, of Stiles-Howerton Funeral Home signed the certificate for the association.

1. Woods County Mutual Burial Association, Inc., a benevolent Burial Association, organized under the State Laws of Oklahoma, for the sole purpose of taking care of a reasonable burial expense of all its members.

2. A member of the Woods County Mutual Burial Association, Inc., consists of the head of the family and those members of that family who are dependent on him or her for their support: this may include a relative living in the home dependent on the head of the family, providing, however, that all are in reasonable good health at the time the membership is accepted by the association; it being understood that when a child marries, that his or her name must be stricken from the certificate and that he must take out a certificate in his or her name in order to receive benefits from the association.

3. The membership fee will be in the sum of $6.00 per year and may be paid at the rate of 50 cents per month, due and payable at the office of the Corporation on the 1st day of each month. The membership shall become delinquent if not paid by the 15th. Unless the burial fund on hand falls below the amount of one death benefit, the Corporation shall not levy an assessment and then only at the rate of 50 cents per certificate.

4. Woods County Mutual Burial Association, Inc., agrees to give each deceased member in good standing in the association, a complete funeral service including embalming, casket, outside box, and grave marker. Funeral Coach and ambulance service within a radius of 100 miles from Alva. If the deceased lives more than 100 miles from Alva a charge not to exceed 12 1/2 cents per mile for additional mileage.

5. Providing no deaths occur in 12 years continuous membership the association agrees to give credit on any funeral of any member named herein amounting to the face value of this certificate without further assessments.

6. In event that this certificate should be allowed to lapse and so become void as such, the association will give credit to the total amount of premiums paid in, on any funeral service elected by the holder of such lapsed certificate.

7. Woods County Mutual Burial Association, Inc., will not be responsible to any person or firm for any debts occurring from the death of any member of the association unless the president of the association is first notified and his consent given in writing for the debt.

There is a letter dated, July 29, 1941, from G.A.Stiles, stating similar rules for ANY AND ALL Burial Associations in the State under House Bill No.62.
