I am 44 years of age and have two school age children and I care deeply about their future. That they may never experience the pristine rivers and the clear blue skies that I did as a child causes me great concern.

For most of my life I have been involved in social justice or environmental issues. Since 1993 I have been actively campaigning ;

* for an end to nuclear proliferation (mining and associated industries), attending Narangba's "castle" demonstrations in solidarity with the locals in their opposition to the irradiation plant, and helping with the campaign to stop the new nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights.
* to preserve our precious remnant bushlands for future generations, attending "the Gully" demonstrations in West End - locking on for a few days just prior to this important area's ultimate destruction.
* for greater public participation in trade negotiations, attending the WTO demonstrations in Sydney.
* lobbying to have the Kyoto Protocol ratified, as a first step towards addressing the issues of climate change.
* organizing public rallies and public awareness meetings on issues such as the invasion of Iraq, the protection of our local river system, the plight of Asylum Seekers and the closing of detention centers.
* for Asylum Seekers (attending the Woomera demonstrations in Easter 2002).

I am often published in local media and my voice is often heard on the radio, I am well known to community and industry groups on all the above issues.

I ran for the Greens in the last Federal Election in the seat of Herbert, and have been selected to run for the Greens in the 2004 Federal Election for the seat of Hinkler.

Locally, I "walk the talk" on self sufficiency in my own backyard with a long term goal of converting my 5 acre property near Bundaberg into a self sufficient and permaculture farm. I am the Secretary, State Delegate and founding member of our local Greens Branch, and the Spokesperson for Bundaberg Rural Australians for Refugees.
Local issues currently on the boil include:
* the destruction of a massive area of coastal bushland at Coonarr Beach, view the damage through the links to the left.
* the Paradise/Burnett River Dam,
* the FTA,
* tackling the many and varied issues that cause this electorate to hold the sad record for the highest rate of youth suicide in Australia,
* reducing funding for the wealthiest private schools and a redistribution of those funds into a much higher distribution of federal funding for our neglected public education system.
* removal of the private health rebate and a redistribution of those funds into our public health system.
* abolition of HECS.
* Rejection of racisms and prejudices against minority groups and individuals.
* Celebration of difference.
* Protection of individual freedoms.
* Exposure of negative fear propaganda.
