On February 9th, NOAR took a trip to Malibu Grand Prix in Redwood City. Thirteen of us met at Malibu at 10am. After three hours of racing, golf, pizza, drinks, video games and ice cream, we drove to San Mateo to participate in the UHAC's Symposium on the Youth Culture of Cruelty. The Symposium started with bagels and schmears and visiting with the other participants. We listened to some ideas on how to deal with bullies presented by Dr. Robert Wells, then broke into groups of students only and adults only. When we came back together, Rabbi Laura Winer, Regional Director of Youth and Informal Education - Pacific Central West Council - UAHC led us in a discussion of how this topic related to being Jewish. NOAR participated actively in all the discussions. There will be an article in the Northern California Jewish Community Bulletin next month describing the Symposium in more detail. The session ended with Havdalah and then our wonderful driver, Maggie Newman, took the participants that were still awake out for french fries on their way home. It was a long day, but we had fun and learned something.
