Radon was first discovered in 1898 by Fredrich Ernst Dorn. It is colorless and odorless at room temperature and chemically unreactive, but very dangerous. It's a very hazardous and radioactive gas because it gives off alpha rays.
However, the radiation was found useful in early cancer therapy. Sealed in tubes, it could then be planted into the tumour.

Radon is the densest gas known. It is hard to study because any compunds which are formed are destroyed by hazardous radiation. It comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water.
Radon has 6 energy levels because it has to hold 86 protons/electrons! The first level, or ring, has 2 electrons. The second level has 8 electrons, third has 18, fourth carries 32, fith has 18, and the last and sixth energy level has 8 electrons.
The symbol for radon is RN and it weighs 222 amu. Its melting and boling points are much lower than any of the noble gases. When
cooled below freezing point, radon becomes a yellowshish color as the temperatre is lowered and orange at the temperature of liquid air.
