How Does Water Cut Out Rivers Among Rocks?

A. As rapidly flowing water runs down over the earth, it washes away loose grains of dust and stone,
and makes tracks in the earth. And the water that is following behind, with its grains of dirt, and bits of
ragged rock, and vegetation, runs through the tracks, and it cuts into the earth with its ragged and sharp
bits of rock and stone. And the water spreads out, and more tracks appear, and the tracks get deeper,
and the tracks get wider, as more water that is following behind, washes rocks down from high places.
And the falling rocks break onto rocks beneath, and other rock is chipped and cracked, and water with
little bits of salt, and dirt and rock seep into the broken rocks and forces them apart. And water washes
dirt from around rocks, as it pushes and drags rocks along, and the water with its sediments grinds over
rocks and stones, and the water grinds them away, and it cuts down deeper into rock. And the water,
with its bits of rocks and stones, cuts down deeper into the earth, and it cuts into the sides of the earth,
and the earth gets heavy, and wet, and the slippery, heavy, wet earth, slides down into the water from the
steepened slopes, and little by little, floods, rivers, brooks, and streams, of water, are cut out among the
rocks, as water follows from behind.
