Peat. Plants that die and have not rotted away are turned into peat. Peat is dug out of the soil, dried, and used as a fuel for cooking and to keep warm. Coal. Plants that are squashed by layers and layers of sediments and water are turned into coal by pressure and heat. Petroleum and natural gas.
