FIESTA CELEBRATIONS IN NEGROS ORIENTAL
Ever since fiesta was introduced into our country by Spain, it has been assimilated into our culture and has become a part of our tradition. Fiesta is always a joyful celebration which is full of gaiety and lots of noisy merrymaking. It is held on a chosen date by the townspeople coinciding with the birth of their chosen patron saint. It is a religious celebration of thanksgiving for a bounty harvest, peace, good health, and for a granted petition.
In the province of Negros Oriental, fiesta is celebrated the whole year round. Aside from the religious fervor that goes with the fiesta celebration, different cultural activities such as street dancing, sports, agro-industrial fair, civic parade, and the holding of a beauty contest among the pretty lasses representing their respective barrios are observed and held.
An added attraction to the fiesta celebration is the carnival. With its numerous thrill rides, games,  and circus show, it never fails to visit the city or town celebrating the fiesta. A special visitation from a popular local actor or actress also graces the occasion.
The biggest attraction however is the feast itself. Much preparation is done days before the fiesta. Houses and surroundings are cleaned and beautified. Cows, pigs and chickens are butchered for the gargantuan feast. People from nearby places and provinces and even balikbayans as well as foreigners flock to the city or town celebrating the fiesta to partake of the people's hospitality. Generally, no invitation is required so everyone who is a visitor is always warmly welcomed.
The float of local beauties always graces the fiesta civic parade.
Visiting folks pay homage to their patron saint during the fiesta celebration.
The table centerpiece of every feast-- the delicious and crispy lechon or roasted pig.
Another added attraction is the street dancing featuring the local festival.
